Threaded end bypass besides Motorcraft at reasonable prices?

I was rooting through the reasonably priced filters at AutoZone today to see if any other than the Motorcraft have a threaded end bypass. Nothing.

Only other threaded end bypass filters I know of are Wix and NAPA (silver and gold I believe) and they are expensive--like about twice the price of Motorcraft.

There is a Purolator (the extra long Ford filter, L40017) with the threaded end bypass, but it's $6, reasonable for the extra long, but why is the FL1A version (L30001) a bottom of the can bypass?

Also, I really like Fleetguard filters, except that I don't think Fleetguard makes one filter with a threaded end bypass.

As much as I hate the new Champion (makes STP filters???) Ecore design, the one redeeming feature is that if the bypass and antidrainback indeed are one and the same valve, then you do get a threaded end bypass, albeit probably a compromise.

OK, rant over. Guess I'll stock up on Motorcraft FL1As.

The Purolator 25230 has the valve in the threaded end as is at Meijer for their regular prices (actually, this week their PureOne is $4).

Interesting. It is similar sized to the FL400s Motorcraft. Wonder if there is a FL1A sized with the threaded end bypass.

Haven't desired the Pure One as I tend to prefer less restrictive filters, but that is a great price for a filter that outght to perform closer to the $10 filters (or so I would think).

Would the Wix 51372 filter compare favorably to the MC 820-S? Or, should I just save a few pennies and stick with the MC for my Explorer V8?

I would use the Motorcraft if you can get it for less money. If the Motorcraft isn't available, then go with the Wix/NAPA Gold.
