The McGuire Twins make the 600 lb Haystacks Calhoun look small.

One of the most peculiar and bizarre wrestling attractions of all time.

A department manager at my company in the 1980s looked at least as big as Mr. Calhoun.

These wrestlers were no doubt much fitter, similar to sumo wrestlers.

I was running home from work after my shift one afternoon and the boss, assuming I was doing so involuntarily, pulled over to offer me a ride. I thought it would impolite to refuse, so rode with him up to the next major intersection.

He had a full-sized Pontiac Parisienne (c. 1980) and had the seat pushed as far back as it would go, to accommodate his belly. His arms barely reached the steering wheel, which was glazed on the bottom from rubbing on his shirt.

Nice guy, and lived into his late 60s, which no one would have predicted.

Had to look them up. Haystack died at 55 and was living in a double-wide with one leg, losing the other to diabetes.

The McGuire twins (723 and 745lbs respectively), Billy Leon died at 32 after a motorcycle accident in 1979, only wrestling for 8 years. Benny Loyd was bedridden after his knees wore out and died at 54 of heart failure.

Nice pics. Hoboken terminal and Penn Station/Moynihan look nice. Haven't been there in a few years. Is that Macy's 34th street?
We didn’t go into Penn this time, took Path from Hoboken to WTC (came on NJT from the suburbs).

That is the one side of Macy’s 34th. Not the done up side, but to me the interesting 1930s working side.

FWIW, we were in the new Moynihan train hall a few weeks back. Far better than gross MSG (I won’t call it Penn Station as that’s offensive to the Penn station that once stood there).

We're very close to the winter solstice (December 22) now, and our earliest sunsets have troughed out at 4:27. (Due to clock noon not being solar noon here, the sun will start to set a bit later starting tomorrow, and will continue to rise increasingly later for another week or so, with the 22nd being the shortest day overall.)

Anyway, here are a couple of photos taken a few minutes after sunset:

Fair enough about MSG being a disgrace to OG Penn. However, I had many fun memories as my Dad worked at the now defunct Au Bon Pain in MSG when I was a small boy. The darkness of it is also comforting to me for some reason. Always felt weirdly comfortable being underground at that place. Plus with it being underground and a stop away from Secaucus makes it cool for me. Still have some old NJT Rail books from an old conductor that used to be on my Dad's commute a lot. Now if only Amtrack wouldn't have random issues whenever a pigeon decides to look at some building in Jersey City it would be nice place to commute. Also, Hudson Yards! I'm already afraid of the heights just looking at the buildings.
