Because I only drink one mug a day. And it actually makes fine coffee.

How big?

The sail itself is well constructed with flat poly rope triple sewn in in the breathable poly sail fabric.
The poles are 1" thick wall iron pipe in 3-4 feet of concrete.
The stainless hardware might be the weak link, chain is over 600 pounds working tension rated. Some of the parts are rated 1000+ pounds. The bigass springs add to the stretch and give and swivels allow for healthy non-binding movement.

I'll let you know it it lifts off, no one should die.

The only thing I've seen more stout is one municipality used thick wall 4x6 rect tube. Seemed like @OVERKILL :)
How big? You tell me - I don’t know what you get there... around here we get a freak storm once or a few times a year that have big gusts. Cause a bunch of damage.

I had a car port that wasn’t sufficiently tied down, and it literally popped up ten feet in the air, flipped, and landed in the yard. My 135i under it was unharmed. Very lucky…. It wasn’t set into the ground correctly.

Iron pipe deep in the ground sounts good, but around here we have these shade sails at the town pool, mand they are supported by much larger diameter pipe. And for sails that I think are smaller (e.g., over a kiddie wading pool). It could be way overkill, could be one size fits all application. The one that worries me in your setup is screwed into the wall of your house. I’d suspect that would be a weak point and tear out.

In the right wind from the right direction, there can be quite a bit of force on these things. Maybe the fact that they arent solid material keeps them from catching too much wind?

We get some winds here but nothing like tornado or hurricane winds. That said we plan on taking it down in winter when storms come in. I’m wanting some more wind actually to stretch and flex it. Our summers are quiescent with light breezes at most.

The house mounted swivel uses 3 4” long 3/8” lags into solid wood. If that pulls out….probably we will have bigger problems

The scary thing are other rigs people on YouTube. Yikes

I guess both vehicles are now getting new tail lights 🙄 truck has a small crack on the driver side, thankfully no hole though, likely ALSO from being ran into with a bicycle.

Alpharex makes some cool looking aftermarket ones for the truck, red tail/brake and sequential amber turn signals, will probably get those and a single replacement for the van.
