Just picked up a 2006 Kawasaki. 750CC SOHC V-Twin (4-stroke).

Manual recommends 10-40 but eludes to a chart of acceptable oil weights. 10-40 showing protection of 14F to 104F; 10-30 showing 14F to 86F; and 5-30 showing 32F and colder.

My ambient operating temps are basically 98 hottest days of August and coldes days can be about -5 to -10 every once in a while.

What would you guys run for this application?? Stay 10-40 Spring/Summer/Fall and move to 5-30 winter??

Thanks!

I'd run something like Amsoil AFF 0W-40 - covers everything.

If you're looking for less-expensive, Rotella T6 5W-40 would be a good option as well.

another vote for Rotella 5w40. many people use it in my atv club with great success. no need for crazy expensive oils. many guys i know run 15w40 all year long but most that ride a lot in the cold whether use the 5w40.

I should add that i have an 02 660 grizzly, with 4300 miles on it, that has had nothing but 15w40 and 5w40 in it. If the temps are below 20F the 15w40 is a little harder on the battery. These engines do not seem to be overly picky about oil.

If im correct it does NOT use a wet clutch. its either a Brute force or KFX 700 and both are CVT style transmissions

+1 for rotella 15w40 in summer (its cheaper so change more frequently) and 5w-40 in winter or just 5w-40 year around.

Ok, Well, here is my initial plan. I have 2 5 gal jugs of PY 10-40 in my stash. I am planning on changing it out tomorrow with that and running a few very low hour of operating OCI to make sure she's clean as can be.

Big indication here in responses for Rotella. Never used it. Could someone explain?? Just wondering since many responses were positive for it.

And anyone have a filter to recommend?? Appears K&N 204 is a viable filter for it.

Thanks guys. Looks like Rotella it is!!

The filter cross-references to the same one used in my mothers Nissam Maxima! BONUS!!
