Looking to dump the RP 5w30 in my S4 (8 mos/2500 mi) and examining my options though suppliers. I found the Motul for under 4 a quart, at either 10/40 or 15/50 while the 8100 is more than twice that per. Considering it takes 10 quarts and the oil wont be stressed or have a high interval on it, it looks like a good option. Its also 502/505 approved, so that helps me sleep a little. My 1.8 is my daily, but the S4 sees use almost every week. ALso looking for any used oil analysis on it, a site search and a google bitog: didnt bring back much. Thanks

John

Interesting. If it meets A3 and the right VAG specs for your car, I'd be willing to give it a try, likely as 10/40 though. You might need to be the first UOA/VOA provider!

Wow, I can't believe you used RP 5w30 in an S4. WRX's destroy the stuff and I would guess the S4 does as well. Where did you find 6100 Synergie for that price? If my PCV valve and valve cover gasket replacement doesn't help my consumption, I'm thinking of going with 10W-40.

It's thick oil! 100 cSt's at 100C!

I can't speak to their oil, but their brake fluid (RBF600/660) is the ONLY brake fluid I will use! I use it in everything from my daily-drivers to my track car (6-piston front/4-piston rear BBK with 380mm front and 355mm rear slotted/vented, never drilled, discs). I have NEVER boiled the fluid.... The "Blue" stuff, whatever it is called (I forget), started to boil after just 8 laps... nearly pushed the pedal through the floor trying to slow from 110mph to 30mph for a turn (on the track), and since then I refuse to use anything but Motul for my brakes.

I love RP/RL oils, and use them exclusively, but I think that Motul might be worth a try (for me, I mean)... If their oil is even half as good as their brake fluid, then it's a winner!

I hope to hear your report back, if you do indeed go for their oil!

Good luck

Subie: I called RP a million times about the 5w30 synthetic. Its not explicitly stated on the bottle or the description, but they confirmed its a 502. I use my A4 all the time, so I knew it would sit more than get used. Once I started lurking on here I became worried about it. Race oil yes, but OK for everyday use? Not sure about that. Now that it saw 100+ degrees summertime to about 25 the other night Im pretty sure its gotta some out. I was watching it on Amazon in the beginning of 2011, and found a 5 gal jug for under 120 shipped. Sniped! Im worried about a slight tensioner noise on startup, which I noticed went away soon after the RP went it, but the colder weather brought it back. Its going this week, Ill analyze it too since I have a BStone kit in my toolbox. I get a deal through my parts suppier (WorldPAC) and since its my car they give me their price. They carry almost any boutique oil available, every Motul except the 300v (special order) Pentosin, Idemitsu, Eneos, Total, Redline etc.
Nklesan: Motul is a better fluid that Superblue, although most customers ask for the Blue. My only problem is the price point. We like to offer it to some of our customers who like better stuff, boutique oils and the best tires, but not everyone wants or needs, that good of a fluid. Im surprised the blue boiled on you though, my only thoughts would be an older container of it and it absorbed water? Thats my one big drawback with blue, its hard to tell time or condition by looking at it.
Im ordering the Motul tomorrow since WorldPacs closed today (as are we

) I might even use it in my 1.8, the 15/50 in there worries me a little with the temps Im seeing. Will report back.

Yeah, I figured that either I got a "bad bottle(?)" or that perhaps there was an air bubble in my brakes, though I highly doubt the latter as I always flush the new fluid through until I can see the new stuff running out of the caliper. I do it in the proper order, and with many dozens of brake fluid changes on my cars and on friends' cars, I have never gotten air into the system...

The Big Brake Kit was relatively new, and this was in the summer and it was fairly hot out, but even then...it still shouldn't have boiled. If it makes any difference, the brakes I have are the 6piston/4piston (F/R) Monobloc calipers (single piece, "uncoated" finish). I was running StopTech Ultimate "HPDE/Track" Pads and 380/350mm F/R slotted StopTech 2-Piece Floating Rotors (cryo-treated, slots don't extend all the way to the edge of the rotor, and fully-ventilated), and StopTech Stainless Steel brake lines. Also had done an M5 Master Cylinder conversion for the increased capacity of fluid.

That scared me pretty good, especially since those brakes were performing like a CHAMP up until that point... Maybe I was getting overconfident with my new brakes (and "R" rubber), and pushed them harder than they should've been at that point? IDK, can't go back in time...

Anyway, I'll agree that the RBF600/660 is overkill for many, but on the other hand: I would rather every single person buy BETTER THAN NECESSARY brake fluid than know that so many people out there are driving on not just worn pads/rotors/shoes, but with fluid that is 10yrs old and, what, 5% water? Just my opinion, but I think you can understand my point...

BTW, sounds like an AWESOME place to work!

Of course it would be nice if we could always sell the Motul, but half the time its an "insta-no" from the customer. "Slap the pads on there its a lease" etc. Even when we sell it for 50 bucks with a brake job, still nothing. Oh well..
And BTW, its an AMAZING place to work haha. I must say its very nice to wake up and love going to your job. Also all the work you do affects the your pocket, so you enjoy working your butt off. Motuls delivered today, dumping the RP sometime this week or Sat.

Mwahaha... S4's are my favorite "kill" at the track, as they never expect a Topaz Blue non-M coupe to pull on them in the straights and hold better through the corners hehe (non-M does not come with a limited slip diff, nor do they typically put down >430rwhp or pull 1.2g or more in corners hehe).

Of course, RS4's are tough SOBs on the track, and S4s can make ridiculous power for cheap (compared to N/A BMWs). That's why they are so much fun to race with

Mercedes, on the other hand, are heavy and slow, unless it is an AMG in which case it's fast and heavy; always thought of them as European Muscle Cars because they knock off ridiculous times at the strip but, for the most part, do not do as well at the track. BMW is kind of the opposite, while Audi sits somewhere in the middle.
(*The above is entirely opinion, I am not bashing anything or flaming or trolling or anything like that, I promise)

My S4 is plenty competitive in stock form. The American muscle cars always seem to get annoyed when I power out of the corner way earlier than them.

I also think nleksans thinking of the B5 S4's with the twin turbo V6 too. The V8 does not get much in the aftermarket, 340hp out of 4.2 isnt so bad to start with. I agree how competitive it is in stock form, I feel the suspension is way too stiff for daily use. I had a 5.0 mustang up my butt on Rt 19, as soon as I hit the off ramp, decreasing radius, and buried it I was gone. By the time he got out of the turn and got into it I was very far ahead. The car is a great all around competitor, and the AWD sells it in the winter.
Back on track, the Motul went in yesterday, and placebo is in full effect. Car feels smoother, also quieted up the tensioner noise on overnight cold starts. Of course I forgot to sample the RP, so all that precious purple stuff went right into the waste oil burner, maybe well get a few more ponies at the burner haha.

Ah yes my mistake, mind automatically went to the 2.7T engines. The newer S4s seem to be much better in the corner than the older ones do, IME, but the older ones also can put out an extra (maybe) 100-150hp from just intake/downpipe/test-pipe/exhaust/turbo+intercooler-piping/intercooler/tune. Add more for a turbo upgrade. That is why FI cars are so fun

I have never driven the newer S4s with the V8 (did get to drive an RS4 in '08 w the 420hp V8... Wicked. Especially as I was in Aspen, in the winter, so.the AWD really shined!), but I would imagine a larger torque curve and more low end grunt?

I am sorry if you took what I said to mean that S4s are not competitive: they absolutely are, which is part of why they are so much fun to race against
smile.gif

I am not a fan of Audi personally, but the S and especially RS models are very nice cars no doubt.

Car still feels pretty good at startup, no harsh noises. I have also noticed that I dont get a slight oil burning smell anymore. Maybe the thicker oil sealed up something. Im pretty sure its going in the A4 soon as well.

I just hope you aren't paying top dollar for that stuff...it's really not much better than the other group III OTS oils.

I've run 300V 5w30 and 5w40 and my used oil analysis have been stellar, even with track time. My next fill might be their 0w40 snowmobile oil.

4.22 a quart was my price since it was for my personal vehicle, and prices for oil went up about 7%, Normally, its 6 and change, which still isnt terrible. If it wasnt so cheap for a 502, Id probably not use it. Especially for a car that sees 5k a year max.
