Thoughts on a S&W Bodyguard 2.0 380 ACP

I’m considering getting one for home security and I might carry it if I get comfortable with it. I got to see and hold one but have not shot it. They are apparently the hottest pocket carry pistol out there and are hard to find. The stores seem to be selling them as fast as they get ‘em so no real desire for them to put them in the case as demo/loaner guns that can be rented out for an hour of trial.

If I get one it will be used with the extended 12 round magazine shown in the first picture, but modified so it can only hold 10 rounds. I tried my grip with the 10 round magazine but could not find a comfortable place for my little finger with the short 10 round magazine. Yup, I’m a southpaw if that matters.

Does anyone have experience or comments shooting this gun? I’d like direct comparisons to shooting a 380 LCP MAX. I didn’t much care for the LCP max because it seemed to have too much upward flip. The second picture is just for size comparison to my hand, I shoot two handed with the proper, albeit lefty, grip.

A great gun. Slim 12 rounder with very controllable recoil. I'd get this over the lcp max if it works better for you.

I know several who loves the gun. I have shot one, and for a slim little smokewagon, it is great.

I assume it is new?

With a 12 round capacity, it would be very well suited for both concealed carry and home defense use. Assuming you could operate the safety with speed and reliability.

All in all, I do not like safeties of these types of guns, but if you can train to manipulate the safety properly, it is a non issue.

My vote would be that it would be a good choice if you are tied to 380 ACP. There is nothing wrong with that. If you did choose 380 ACP, as carry ammo, I would recommend https://underwoodammo.com/380-acp-6...n-solid-monolithic-hunting-self-defense-ammo/ .....for carry.

As an alternative, the Glock 43x is in 9mm, and has extended capacity ,and no safety.

Happy Hunting.

I had a Shield in 9mm. The grip is too small for my hand and I ended up putting my trigger finger too far into the trigger guard which resulted in me pulling my shots (too much finger causes you to push the gun sideways as you fire it). I sold it.

I was lucky to get the first gun my FFL got, the day after the release. I’ve fired around 200 rds of FMJ, and 20 rds of Federal hydra Shok deep. No malfunctions. I carry it in a pocket holster, and it just disappears. It’s amazing.

I already have a 9mm Walther PPQ M1 5 inch barrel but it is a beast, looking for smaller gun and maybe something the wife could use in an “emergency” with a little training for times I’m not home. In my state, handguns are not simple to buy because of required purchase permits etc. and limited to 10 rounds if a semiautomatic.

My Henry frontier holds 16 22lr’s but that’s okay here because it’s a lever action.

Also- the Bodyguard comes in a with and without safety versions. What I’m not sure of is if the no safety version is legal here. So much BS here….

How about a APX they are super priced right now with rebate (249?)
or a XDM Elite Compact for $299
both 9mm.
I dont see much point in .380 at this time with availability and cheapness of 9mm ammo types.

Do a lot of shops sell guns for higher than MSRP ? That should be $399, not $450. All of the nearby Range USA locations have multiple in stock as does AIM Surplus (at $419) so it's not because they're hard to get, in case that's what they're claiming. FWIW, Range USA has it marked as on "SALE", reduced from the MSRP of $399.99 down to $399.00 !! 🤣

Friend has one and he loves it. He's an FFL, collector, etc and has owned or used probably hundreds of guns. I'm planning to get one for my wife and possibly our daughter too.

I have a small Glock and it moves in my large hands too much to be accurate. To me it's only good for carrying not shooting accurately.

Gen 1 BG .380's were garbage of the 1st order.

Shoot it next to a Sig P365 9mm. Which is only hair bigger, much better made, accurate and of course 9mm
The 2.0 model only seems to have one thing in common - .380 caliber. They shouldn't even call it a "bodyguard" based on the original model.

Have you looked at the Ruger Security .380? It's Ruger's direct competition for that Smith. I've been considering one for awhile now. Yeah I have a .38 snub nose or 2 and yeah I have a compact 9...but I like .380 and the capacity to size/weight plus I have a bit of .380 rounds from my purchase of a POS Bersa Thunder .380.
