Thoughts on a new Tahoe

It seemed at one point your wife and you (and the dogs) were pretty set on a 4Runner for it's 4wd ability, reliability, and roll-down rear window. You can certainly buy and do what you want, but what changed?
third row legroom! kids are too big I think to do a long trip in a 4runner.

Just wait till the cylinder deactivation technology dies on you. Costs us $12,000 for a new cam and lifters. This issue is all over the internet slash world. First comes oil drinking then a new motor. Sell it while you still can. Or don't listen to me. Do your own google search on this.

my brother has a 2009 tahoe with 200k miles on it, turned off the AFM software at about 150k. no problems. i get that the AFM/DFM problems are real and that it hurts bad when they occur. But, as they say, you pay your money and you take your chances.

No they say to sell that time bomb off as in today if it was me.

I was told even if you disable it, the lifters are still in the engine on 4 of the 8 cylinders that fail. Dealer can't put regular lifters in the block like the old reliable days. Oh no you need the $800.00 set of lifters alone plus the near $1,000.00 camshaft LOL. Not including labor and gaskets ect....... Run for the hills people.

you had a bad experience, millions of vehicles haven’t. AFM/DFM isn’t great but it isn’t an immediate death sentence. did you write toyota off when the new tundra engines started blowing up? or Hyundai/kia when their engines started blowing up? or ford when their spark plugs shot out of the heads, turbos failed etc. Stallanis when hemi’s started eating cams and lifters the same as the GM system does? every manufacturer has an issue lol. i wouldn’t buy anything new off the lot. i like to drive old junk that i can keep on the road for next to nothing.

What i can't understand no matter how much money i had theres no way in hell i would pay that much for any vehicle. If everyone would stop paying for the rest of their life and drove a paid for car then prices would drop greatly. i bought a brand new tahoe lt in 2003 i still have it with 91,000 trouble free miles on it. i also have bought and still drive $1,000 to $4,000 vehicles and they go and drive just as good as my Tahoe. i just don't get it if your buying for the status symbol then your an idiot.

The time has come, we are looking to purchase one. I watched this video and am in love with the color combo and model. We're looking into ordering to keep the vehicle to only one option HC Deluxe--that first digit in the price does matter, no lie....

I think the achilles heel of it all is only a 10 speaker stereo in 2025, but we'll survive lol

sticking with 22's and 275s...

shhhhhhhh what recall!

I'm gonna put an Olds 350 Diesel in a Bronco II and add some vintage Firestones to it ... wish me luck, fellas! What could go wrong
A solid axle from a Jeep with some Death Wobble will round out that package nicely! Maybe a Nissan CVT just for fun?

Don't fall into the quantity = quality trap. High speaker number is something auto makers tote as an "upgrade" and use to try to make a system sound impressive when that is rarely the reality. Numerous vehicles with 6 speaker setups that are far superior to other 12+ speaker setups that I've owned.

Realize this is an older thread-but a new Tahoe's ride is far superior to the one you have-as it is against any beater that you are buying.

I tried all those online car buying websites and all had zero discount on a Tahoe HC, while $3k on an LS (can't give them away on seventh avenue?). I managed to find one dealer who said $4k discount on HC and order, and supposedly, take that discounted number, add $477 doc fee, taxes and registration. They are claiming no hidden fees? Also said when ordering to give it 4 mos. to take delivery. I'm curious if GM is like BMW, where the mfg. knows the name address etc. of the person ordering? I would think so as that happens with Corvette and my name is on the configuration and it has a bunch of legalese from GM. Again the purpose of ordering is to bare bones the optioning, esp. those 24" rims (not have them), and maybe late production is better. Price would be locked. Told my wife we're at the stage in life where we need to just get what we really want, not what we do not. I wonder if it's even possible to come towards the end of the year and they simply don't produce the vehicle? Many questions...

edit copy/paste from the doc: "This document contains information considered Confidential between GM and its Clients uniquely. The information provided is not intended for public disclosure." I remember getting a service history on my BMW (my own car) and was told I'm not allowed to have it. Then the finance manager who pulled it, said if I accidentally left it on my desk, and you inadvertently took it, I would not lose any sleep. He smiled, shook my hand, and left. It looked all Lexis Nexis and said not to be shared with the consumer, proprietary use only. The context was I was shopping for a BMW extended warranty. He stated we do not discount them, but that is not to say there aren't dealers who do. On this topic? I'm pretty sure my position has changed on a domestic vehicle, and I would eventually seek out a factory extended warranty.
