I'm posting this in this section instead of the General section because it definitely has a lot to do with lubrication.

I just wanted to see how many people here have over 150,000 miles on their original engines, to see what kind of oil you've been using and what kind of intervals.

We talk about a lot of different oils on here, and critique a lot of UOAs, but the absolute best way to find out if any particular routine works, is to look at those people who have had success with it by getting long life from their engine! That is truly what we are all trying to achieve here.

So if you've owned your car since new (or at least know the exact prior history of it from new), please step in and give us your input!

I think this could be a very interesting topic!
I have 170,000kms on our 15 odyssey.😁

2004 Land Rover Discovery 176K. Mostly 5w-40 M1 Turbo Diesel Truck or Rotella 5w-40. Runs great, some oil loss mostly from leaks I would say. About 1/2 quart over 6 mos of light use these days. Changed twice a year since new.

Got a whole herd of them:

'99 Civic 272K (my daily)
'04 WRX 266K(wife's daily, original everything but struts/tires/brakes)
'06 Camry 226K (spare/daily when clutches get tiresome on Baltimore 695)
'00 Silverado 206K
'91 Miata 155K (nice day toy)
'00 Civic 338K car, 369K engine/trans/clutch
Now this is something!! Way to keep the cars in the road!

2011 Nissan Xterra 170,000 miles original engine+transmisison
2008 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4, V8 189,000 miles all original except radiator/belts/hoses/rotors/pads etc

only pic I have of the car I drove the most miles. a 99 Cavalier. 317,xxx miles on it, bought it with 47k on it.. paid 3500 for it, and put about 270,000 miles on it . I french fried the engine on Alligator Alley , ran out of coolant, said screw it see if I can make it to a rest area. it didn't...
Consensus was Cavalier were POS but this one ran and ran and ran..

Currently at 246000 miles, 04 grand cherokee. 4.0 L. I use fram tough guard filters and ive used a ton of different oils. Its a noisy engine. The quietest smoothest running oils have been royal purple hmx and the Mobile 1 high milage one I got at costco on sale. I usually change between 3000-4000miles no more.

I just went past 250,000 miles on my 2008 3/4 ton Suburban but since I was toggled to km I didn’t notice until now. The 6.0 motor, 6L-90 transmission, transfer case and rear end are all original. I replaced the alternator, power steering pump and master brake cylinder, but the water pump and rad are still original. The AC compressor is acting up so I’ll check the system for leaks and maybe change out the compressor. Onward to 300,000 miles. :D

Cavaliers weren’t POS (es?)-I had an ‘87 for a while & a friend had an ‘86, both pieced together & beat to (heck) and back, both over 200K. They are like roaches, keep oil & coolant in them, they just keep going. The OHV ones, anyway.

When it comes to racking up the mileage I'm a noob compared to some of you, but I just wanted to add my $0.02.

Ex-wife's 2003 Mercury Marauder - 220,000 miles on original engine and transmission.
My newly-acquired 2011 Grand Marquis - 178,000 and under the 710 cap looks remarkably clean.

205,000 on 08 toyota highlander. still has original alternator and water pump. engine runs smooth and never had any issues. 50k drain and refill with WS fluid for tranny. i use Redline fuel treatment before oil changes every 5k miles. Mobil 1 most its life. now currently using HPL 10W-30 NO VII.

burns zero oil, still drives like brand new. garage kept.

That's my 19 year old Ford fiesta 1.6 2005 model. 5spd manual.bought new. Recently got to 251.000+kms (156K miles). Converted to lpg at 201.000kms. Oil changes with 913-D Ford spec oil 5w30 every 20.000kms. 3 oil changes for the gearbox, one with Ford fluid at 100K and 2 with motul gear 300 at some later points . Oil consumption is almost non measurable - half a quart every 20.000km. Original clutch, water pump wheel bearings etc. Engine performance is like new. Oil drains lightly colored thanks to clean lpg burn. Under engine cover everything is brand new squeaky clean. My first and only car, almost no city driven. I try my best to take good care of it. Hope it continues to serve me equally well for a long time in the future.

2009 Silverado - currently at 318k, 5k intervals of Mobil 1 5W30 + 1qt Lucas Oil Stabilizer since I bought it at 100k
1994 C1500 - currently at 225k, 3k intervals of cheap standard 5W-30 since new
2003 Camry - currently at 162k, 5k intervals of Mobil 1 5W-30 since i bought it at 140k

I had dreams of hitting 500k in the Silverado but gas was killing me so the Camry is the new driver. The '94 is a garage queen these days.

I think it's awesome that it has been close to 20 years since I first posted this thread and it's still getting attention! :) And a lot has changed in 20 years too, I considered 150,000 miles to be high mileage back then but that seems to be a milestone that's pretty readily achievable with most vehicles. Even 250k isn't a tough thing to achieve these days.
As long as you maintain the vehicle and you stay on top of oil changes and other fluid changes
