this is why they're called stealerships

when I was selling cars, there was a sleazy Sopranos looking guy coming in to see the F&I guy. he was the guy from the company selling the glass etching deal. I think they started offering it.
point is, there are LOTS of greedy unscrupulous people in the chain. but since chrap flows downhill, the consumer (and the salesman) gets hit with all of it.
whatever the F&I guy sells is called back end money. that's how HE gets paid. if he only did the paperwork, how much do you think he's making? he's on commission just like the salesman. cash deals, they don't even want to SEE you because you are wasting their time.
last new car I bought was out '04 VUE, still have it. it had $150 pinstrip on it; I said take it off, I'm not paying for it. they said ok. well, obviously, it takes more work to take it off, so they nver did. but there was no way I'd pay for it.
one time I looked at a new nissan titan. all of the trucks on the lot had some stupid stuff added, like paint protection, etc. they said they all get that when they come off the truck. I asked what if I wanted one w/o? he said I'd have to go somewhere else. real smart business model, eh?

My old job added on door edge guards and paint sealant onto cars - the paint sealant is included as part of a new-car detail and we tacked on $250 for $2 of materials and 10 minutes of labor.

Hendrick's buddy made the stuff. It's garbage - the stuff is basically Teflon and silicone. Save your money. The door edge guards are 3M.
