I put in Syntec full synthetic shortly after 1k miles because I considered my driving to be "severe conditions" often sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. But my work schedule has recently changed and I don't hardly sit in traffic as long.

I'll be going with 6 month OCIs as I drive between 6-8k miles a year.

Would it be ok to switch back to MC next oil change?

I'd say Motorcraft semi-synthetic will serve you well for a 3 month/3,000-4,000 mile OCI.

Ranger, that's one of the nice things about trucks. Unlike women, once a truck has experienced the finest in life (synthetic oil in this case), it is just as happy as always to go back to lessor things. Do not try and take your woman's diamonds away and replace them with Cubic zirconium....that pinging and knocking sound won't be from premature ignition. And speaking of such, you probably won't be having to worry about anything else being premature for a long, long time. If ever.

Motorcraft is a fine choice for a 6 month / 5K interval. Truth is, Rangers are tough as hickory nuts and it probably wouldn't matter what brand of oil you used, so long as its API rated and the correct grade.

I'll be stepping down from a base stock of III (Syntec) to II+ (MC 5w-20 syn blend) ... right?

Something like that, I guess. It's more like emeralds and rubies instead of diamonds and cubic zirconium.

Your truck won't mind at all!

I wonder if MC is factory fill. My orginal filter was a no name built in the UK.

My dealership doesn't use MC as it's bulk oil.

MC: Group II/Group III blended for Ford by ConocoPhillips - who is the U.S. distributor of Korean "S-Oil" Group III base oils domestically. Who's to say that the bulk drums the dealer contracts for aren't filled with MC synthetic blend?

06 Ranger, I have owned 3 Rangers and put high miles on the first 2 using only Castrol GTX dino. I have 51,000 miles on my '02 Ranger and will keep it for at least 5 more years as I want a Mustang but need to keep the truck for winter and for hauling mulch, furniture, etc. I plan on using the Motorcraft blend I bought up at $1.58/qt. After that's gone, probably Chevron or Havoline dino. If it makes you uneasy to step down to a blend, then keep using the expensive synthetic. It's your money.
