thinking of buying 06 Mercury Milan

Sorry -- what I was saying was "Ford is now second to last overall" -- according to CR. This is due to new model issues with Focus, Fiesta, and Explorer. It's also due to Fusion and previous Escape not be counted (redesign). Historically, the Fusion (and twins) have been really reliable. We'll see what the '13s bring.

Ok, ive read everyones remarks and im finding my own info (online) about transmission issues.. What i dont see is if its just the 4 ot 6 cyl models that are riddled with this.. this is a real concern for me.

I spoke with the owner today (he lives in a retirement villiage) and i confirmed

its a 06 Milan 6 cyl "premier"
it does have 21,xxx on the clock
heated leather
in dash 6 disc
all power
moon roof

its dark blue outside on black inside.
the old man had the windows tinted.
All service was done at the local ford/lincoln/mercury dealer
He put a new battery in it this year.

He said he knows the books say its worth $13,000-$14,000 he also said he wasnt putting a price on it. He would listen to offers. He is not actively selling/listing the car. he simply said "make me a offer"

The car you are looking at with the 3.0 V6 has the asian transmission, you won't have any of the issues that you have been reading about as those relate to the trans in the 4 cylinder.

The car you are looking at is the same year/model as my wifes, which has almost 105,000 trouble-free miles. Absolutely the most maintainence-free car we have owned, there weren't even any recalls or any issues that needed to be addressed by the dealer, almost unheard of at the time, as '06 was the first year release for this new model.

awesome ! thanks for that bit of information, we can buy with confidence !

That being the case and this is a private party sale.. and all the informationgiven at this point..

What would you offer this old timer for the car without being insulting ? I understand that he gave $26,xxx (ish) for this car in 06 and with only 21,xxx miles on it in his mind its still pretty new.. I dont want to insult the guy, and frankly im only interested in the car as i know its background (used little well kept) regardles if i love the car or not a basically newish condition car with ubber low miles is solid transportation for a low price.. im strictly looking at this a to and from work car for hauling groceries and kiddos..

My suggestion is go to Kelley Blue Book and see what they come up with, at the very least that will give you a starting point.

KB is $14,000 ish retail and $12,000 PP (Private Party)

what got me interested was my father telling me about it and mentioning $10,000.. what i dont know is if the owner mentioned this or if its just a number my dad pulled out of his hat (unlikely). suppose to go see it Saturday, with any luck i can reach my hard to reach father for this info..

went and looked at this car today (very nice) will be test driving it tomorrow.. going to offer him $9,500 and se where it takes me.

Ok, so Saturday we went and test drove the Milan. Super nice car ! we did a little in town driving and a little highway driving, car is like showroom condition minus needing a good detail job, drove flawless..

The only problem detected was a quirky driver side enterior handle issue.. the lever to open the door actualy sticks out a bit and the electric lock wont lock the door, so to lock the door you must push in on the handle and the lock manually at the same time and the door locks fine.. and unlocks with the key or the fob (either one).. so after purchase we will be taking this to the shop to get fixed.

After some negotiations we settled on $10,000 for this car. Im going to the bank tomorrow (Tuesday). The seller has offered to help with the door repair if it exceeds $300.00 to fix.. I thought this was kind.

What i observed
Everything mentioned before, its a 98% mint condition, Dark Midnight blue exterior over heated black leather with white stitching interior. factory 17's rims with almost perfect factory tires (look brand new) . It does have 6 cyl engine with 21,200 miles. premier package w/ 6 disk & mp3 in dash, power sliding sunroof. Power everything. New battery, windows tinted. and most important, the oil looks fresh

its even got a full tank of gas.

My wifes going to become the new owner of this pretty car, (this means my new daily driver will be my wifes 85,000 mile 07 Honda Accord. I can put my 06 Silverado in the garage and start saving some gas $$..

so anyways, thought id update y'all

This brings me to the Honda Accord.. My wifes, Passed down to me car ! its the car in my Sig and its got 85,000 on the clock.. Ive owned this car since 09 but frankly never paid much attention to it.. its my wifes, i just change the oil and what not when needed... Now as of today its my daily driver, the Silverado's already in the garage. I spent 2 hours detailing this car out after my wife took possession of the Mercury.. this car shines up like a new penny too.. its the EX model loaded with all the goodies. I drove it to work tonight after detailing it out and frankly im in love with a car for the first time ive had for three years.. funny, We bought one car but after a little cleaning and ascrubbine we both feel like we got new cars !
