Thinking About Moving to Colorado

The Front Range of CO is one of the, if not the fastest growing area in the United States, so we have some serious urban sprawl and the "issues" that come with it, mainly traffic. That being said, it's a pretty [censored] place to live! I wouldn't live anywhere else. You now have to venture pretty far out in the boonies in the mountains to get away from the urbanites. If you want to go fishing and be alone anywhere within 100 miles of Denver, forgetaboutit. But there are still great secluded places. The I70 corridor west of Denver is a NIGHTMARE on the weekends. Bumper to bumber traffic all the way to summit county most days. Still, it's hard to beat if you really do like outdoor activities. And since it is growing, jobs are plentiful. They just said my area, CO Spgs, has the lowest unemployment ever recorded. There are lots of jobs for people with degrees in anything with demand like you have.

The weather will be an adjustment from Cali; December through Janurary, the side roads will be covered with ice/snow most of the time, and we get low temps in the teens below zero regularly.

Good luck Tom.

I find that wherever I go, if you work a professional job you can do it anywhere and do just fine.

Yep, thats exactly what I tell everyone about a job search.

As a military veteran try also looking on USAJobs.gov to see if you can find something in the area you want to move to in Colorado. Good luck.

Everything I've heard about Colorado (including from a trusted friend & co-worker who did contract work in Denver for several years) would make it one of my first choices were I to live in the US. Enjoy, I think you're making a good decision.

Any tips on moving or thoughts on Denver?

Honestly, anything that you can throw away or sell easily, and replace when you get here, is the best bet.
There's no point paying more than you need to to move a bunch of junk you may not even want anymore, but currently just takes up space in your current house.

As for Colorado itself, there are lots of people who have been moving here from other states for a very long time.
I moved here twice, first time in 1995, and the last time in 2006.

I live North of Denver in a smaller town, but the great thing is you can move anywhere in the state, as long as you can tolerate the commute.
The closer you get to either mountains or the Denver/Westminster/Boulder area, the higher prices get.
The further east if I-25 you get, the lower prices become.

Its just a matter of figuring out how far you are willing to commute, and finding a neighborhood you like that falls within that distance.

As for political leanings, there are plenty of areas that slant either Blue or Red, if you feel like you must live with a bunch of like-minded people.
I personally don't care much what my neighbors political leanings are, so that's not my focus in life. I just wanted a nice 4 car garage with a house attached.

BC.

Lived in western Colorado for three decades working in power generation. Colorado is a beautiful state but there seems to be junk anywhere everywhere you go. Never lived in a state where there is so much junk of every kind. Magnificent scenery every way you look and junk cluttering up the landscape. Seems old vehicles, tractors, semis, farm and ranch equipment never are recycled but just sit in place where they stopped running while entropy takes over. All and all though, I wish I was still a grennie. Don't expect residence of Wyoming to take a kindly view of you when they spot the green license plate. I think it's something in their gene pool.

Phone interview went really well. The job seems to be right inline with what I'm looking for. The next step is flying out for an in-person interview. During the trip I'm going to visit some of the areas around Denver to figure out what I like. The job is near Buckley AFB.
