Thinking about a Ford Fusion

I've been thinking about trading my Civic in for a used Fusion. Probably an 07 or 08. At first I was looking at the Accord since my wife and I are a big Honda and Nissan fan. I like the style of the Fusion so i'm leaning towards it. The resale value is not as good as the Accord so if we buy it used it would be good for us. We're expecting a 2nd baby so we want to get rid of my 2dr for a 4rd. The one I'm looking at is the "S" model with a 5 speed. This will be our first Ford product if we get it. Any thoughts? any issues that the Fusion has that should be looking for?

I think they are great cars. I would call your insurance company first, a friend of mine was shocked at the rates for her Fusion compared with her replaced 07' malibu.

Fusion are good cars but I would not compare them to an Accord. They are a little less refined than a Civic; they are good for a Ford, though...

We really like our 07 SEL . Take some out for a drive and see what you think . If you are going to do a fair bit of hwy miles it's nice to have the V6 but if you are going for economy than the I4/5 speed is a great combination .

Go for it - They're high quality cars and equal or better than an Accord lately - It won car of the year, too - They also look better and are not boring looking like Hondas, IMO: (especially the current models, but i also like previous gen Fusions.)

My buddy bought a base I4 5speed manual for 14,000 brand new, plus tax, title...etc. I'm not sure what used ones go for, but if you can get decent financing you might fare better new. The new model is better than the old as well.

I personally put the last gen, up to the 09, below the Accord. But, it was priced to reflect that.

I hear you, we traded an Accord for the Highlander when we had our first kid, and our Civic for the Accord when we had our second.

I find them to be rather boring cars.

For the money, I would much rather have a 06-07 Accord. I think those were the best Accords ever made.

My wife has a 2006 Accord SE (5 speed) and its a great car for the money.

Do you plan on selling the Civic or keeping it ?

Buy American, save a neighbor's job. The Accord was built in Ohio. The Fusion in Mexico. You'll sell a used Accord ten times faster and for more money too. Not saying the Fusion is a poor quality car but that's just the facts.

I have an 07, good car but as with all automatics its the weak link. Keep the transmission fluid changed. Looking back I would have bought a manuel.

If you are will to drive to buy one I would be willing to sell mine. PM me if interested.

My 07 has been a great car so far. Handles great, and has an excellant ride for FWD. 4 cyl Duratech has been flawless and MPG is very good. Also auto transmission is silk smooth.

Probably trade it in or sell it to a private party... There's no room for a 3rd car.

I found the first gen Fusion slightly below the Accord in terms of materials quality and attention to details. Good car nonetheless and a lot cheaper than a used Accord. Honda seems to have a very good grasp on ergonomics and their interiors very eye pleasing (IMO). And like someone else said, the Fusion is made in Mexico with 40% Mexican parts content. I did encounter a few Accords assembled in Mexico too when I was car shopping.

What about a Sonata?

Most cars are good enough these days that if you like them and can afford them you won't go wrong by buying one.

Cars that depreciate a lot can even be a plus, just buy one that's 2 years old and let the depreciation be to your advantage.
