Quick question: If my car goes from mobil 1 to the super syn, will it even notice. This Ecotec has lived on mobil 1 most of it's life (has been on a few other syns though) I figure since it's in the same family (similar add packs) that the car won't even notice....Still want good protection isnce the wife does drive it, but I'm willing to bet that I don't get the full use out of it either (stays in 4.5-6k) It's hard to say no, since:

A) Good prices on the mobil super syn

B) I am having a harder time justifing put pricier oil into a older and more higher milage car (I can already see the engine is going to outlast the body easy)

Should I give it a try?

Your car will not notice. But if you have a clean record of always using one kind of oil, I say there is a strong psychological value in that.

On a more serious note, I would question your OCI and without some compelling reason, try at least a 7,500 mile interval immediately.

Interesting part about this car is that I can feel the changes when the car changes oil (maybe because we've had it so long), though it does adjust pretty quick after a few hundred miles or so.

As far as the OCI, it's about time I broke down for a UOA. She puts some hard city miles on the oil,so at this point I'm a bit iffy to push farther then around 6k. She drives less now too, so the miles are not racking up like they used to. She might only put 5k on it in 6 months, another reason why I've considered dropped to the Super Syn as well.

The car will not notice. The owner on the other hand will begin to notice all sorts of things... unusual noises, big swings in MPG, changes in 0-60 times, strange smells, changes in sleep patterns, foods not tasting as they used to, unusual libido, and other delusions of grandeur. I've heard it all here on BITOG, so it must be true!

Victoria's Secret has some 5-weight oils that might help.

Any oil that's rich in Omega-3 fatty acids supposedly works. If you can't find one off the shelf, grind some salmon into her olive oil.

Either that, or lose that beer belly and build up some muscle by pumping iron (lifting 5qt jugs of M1 of course).

Nice....

In Australia Mobil 1 is supersyn. Not sure of the question being asked here.

Alternatives to Mobil 1 are Mobil 3000/Super , Mobil 2000/Super and Mobil 1000/Super series engine oils.

Please clarify difference bewtween Mobil 1 and Supersyn.

He's referring to the new Mobil Super brand of oil that released in the USA. It comes in Mobil Super (conventional), Mobil Super High Mileage (semi-synth), and Mobil Super Synthetic (full synth). Its marketed as a low tier synthetic oil behind Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 EP.

He is not referring to Mobil's Supersyn technology.

What does the car do to adjust to new oil?
