Things we see driving around - original content (pictures you snapped)

So that is what the pry bar I have is, something for rail. I recall seeing one years ago at a friends house; when I came across one at an estate sale I picked it up, as it's nice as a prybar in the ground (loosening up rocks or what have you). Guessing used to move the track before nailing down?
My guess is not any better than yours. The bar has a curved claw. I think you could do all sorts of things with it. For example, you could loosen a railroad spike.

Thanks a lot for blocking my view like that. Not only was that brain facing the wrong way, he also pulled forward so much that I couldn't possibly see any vehicle approaching while backing out. Pure genius.

I hate when that happens.

Darkness in the Middle of the Day: 11:30am September 9, 2020
San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, CA

Smoke and ash in the sky from wildfires hundreds of miles away blotted out the sun and caused street lights to come on and cars to use their headlights.

Until I understood what was happening, the orange glow that filtered through my south-facing curtains was eerie and a little scary.

Ah. The one I have looks like a point similar to what a rail road spike would be. Maybe shaped differently, but still a single chisel point.

If that one has claws then I wonder if it was for pulling up spikes.

A humpback whale as seen from a breakwater. 50-60 feet long and 35-40 tons. I should have brought a proper camera. Next time. :ROFLMAO:

The dorsal fin is visible, birds are following the whale around, hoping for scraps when the whale is feeding. Whales are messy eaters.

The humpback is coming up with its mouth wide open, scooping up several tons of seawater. Plankton, small fish, and crustaceans get stuck in the baleen while the water drains out. The whale then licks its food off the baleen. During this process, birds, mostly gulls, pelicans, cormorants, shearwater, and terns are divebombing for scraps.

The baleen is visible, hanging down from the upper jaw. Ballen is the filtration system these filter feeders use. Baleen is made from keratin just like hair or fingernails. The baleen consists of hundreds of baleen plates on each side of the upper jaw. Sometimes, pieces of baleen will wash up on the shore.

Note the two blowholes. Baleen whales have two blowholes/nostrils at the top of their heads, toothed whales have one blowhole. You see a forked "nose" terminating in two slightly raised blowholes. Sometimes they blow two distinct spouts, often the two spouts appear like one spout from afar.

So one engine is setup to revolve counter normally?
A cam swap is required, yes?
The engine always rotates clockwise. The drive/gearbox with gear reduction determines the rotational direction of the prop.

You can balance a hull to counter prop torque. With small boats the helm position and the pilot's weight is commonly used to counteract single-prop torque. Now, consider single prop planes and single main rotor helicopters.

I remember when my Dad bought our first boat (1964ish) he did not want to sit on the wrong (right-hand) side and had them put the controls on the left. It didn't matter in the long run cuz Mom was usually in the right seat, and I think she out-weighed him. (Sorry Mom).
I think the gear ratios in the lower unit for fwd/rev are the same, no? That would just make it a matter of using a reverse pitch prop and swapping fwd for rev?

Pigeon Point Lighthouse has been under refurbishment for months. Supposedly the work will be done in two years. The fresnel lens was rebuilt in France a decade ago and has been off-site since.

If I weren't lazy I'd bring a camera
