Thicker Oil for Sludge Monster engine w 165,534mi?

Just thought about it.. filled w 3 qts 10w30, 1 qt 5w30 and 1 qt 10W-40 and i wonder if i should have maybe just used 10W-40, as my engine is a certified "sludge monster" and perhaps is more worn. Runs very string, sure, but idk if 10W-40 may have been a betetr choice, particularly with the REALLY hot weather only a couple months away.

I just changed it and the filter about a week ago so im not about to go dumping it in a panic, and i should add ZDDP via the breakin additive to be safe but ive even thought about GC in terms of thickness of oil.

84 camaro v6 2.8 SLUDGE MONSTER if u aw my fill hole and upper valvetrain through ill hole. advice ? is 10w30 "fine" even when its 105 outside?

In that engine I would just run the least expensive dino you can find.
Which leads me to ask why you mixed all the oils in the first place?

Why not just use one grade and stick with it?
I certainly wouldn't be spending money on synthetic.

If you want more additives, why not try a HDEO?

I would use a conventional oil like Havoline, Pennzoil conventional, VYB etc. whatever is on sale at the big stores and shorten the OCI's. I would also run a quart of MMO with each OC. No reason to go thicker than what the manufacturer specifies and use 3000-3500 as a benchmark for your changes. How do you drive? Short trips? Highway? If you drive short distances it can be a real killer and the thinner the oil is the faster it warms up to temp so no need to go extra thick.

A few questions:

1) Do you have consistently good oil pressure?
2) Do you have any leaks?
3) What's your reasoning for thinking that thicker oil needs to be used?

In my sludgemonster experience, I bought plenty of oil (one weight), oil filters, seafoam and MMO. I alternated between MMO and Seafoam until I got consistent oil pressure and from that point, I went with HDEO, but a good idea would be to try Rotella 10w30 and MMO.

Bud, you really have to relax. The mix you have put in is fine, run it 3-4k and then change it out.

GM's 2.8 V-6 is NOT a 'sludge monster' engine! They are not known for sludging up! Yours may be a bit dirty fron neglect, but it will clean up in time - if it runs fine, just enjoy the car and drive it!

Just leave the oil in there and go for 3-4k, you'll be fine. Yes, 10w30 will be fine in high temps.

And whatever you do, don't EVER put several gallons of MMO in your gas tank again

+1 you c an always find a diesel oil on sale. right now napa has valvoline hdeo on sale for 10 a gall, orielly's has mobil on sale for 10, and walmart has delo for 10.
i would run any of them with one qt MMO to clean it up

I was thinking Shell Rotella T 15w40 because it has a lot of ZDDP and well i suppose im planning my next oil change
maybe MMO would be ideal in that thicker oil also because it will be summer here

idw to do the T5 or T6, notmal Rotella should be ok, right ?

i also thought about GC with a zddp addy

just thoughts, if the oil thats in there now isnt too thin in mahpy nad ill change out filter early and NEVER add more than one gallon of MMO in the gas tank again at one time

Man - replace the intake manifold gaskets! These engines are IM gasket blowers - and thus the sludge. Dont worry about the oil! OTW they are nice sounding and performing engines.
