I have had my 2006 for 6 months now. Extremely happy with the build quality. I've averaged over 40 mpg in a mixed urban freeway driving style with my 5 speed CE.
Note, in April 2006, Toyota issued a TSB regarding their recommended use of 5w20 oils.

Wow, thats a great price. I don't know what I would do with a car that did that good on gasoline. I guess I would probably buy more oil

I had an 06 Corolla for a rental car earlier this year and I was quite impressed with it. The engine had decent power for an economy car and was very smooth. It was a very comfortable car to drive, much more comfortable than our 2000 Civic.
Since 2007 is the last year for the current generation Corolla, prices will be low, very low. They are selling LE Auto models for $14k here.
On the other hand, the Civic EX Auto I looked at was $18k, and that was with a $2k discount. The Jetta 2.5 is $1000 more. But I'd still take either of those cars over the Corolla as they are of a much newer design.

The Civic EX is better equipped, More HP/Torque, 5-sp Auto, cruise, ABS, Sunroof, Air Bags all-around are all standard.

I hope they don't screw up the new generation by adding weight and power. Though they kept the current model as lean as the previous.
Might be some dealers are blowing out current stock to get a better allocation of the new ones. Know a guy who got a great deal ($7000!) on a Plymouth Sundance when Neons were around the corner.

I sure love my 05 5 speed Corolla. Just passed 65k miles and just keeps driving like new.
Never been back to the stealership and overall MPG is around 42-43 mpg.
A pleasure to drive (Pabs, the Amsoil fluid for the transmission worked excellent!,
I could tell the difference over the Mobil 1 I took out after 40k) and for the $14k out the door, I could not have bought anything better IMO.
Easy engine to work on (you can see and get your arms around both sides of the engine if needed. Honda is still tight in 2007 even though they did fix the Filter location!)
Plenty of room for my 6 foot 6 inch 300lb (yes, I need to lose weight)

Went across the 120 degree desert with not skipping a beat. A/c was excellent and even having to idle for hours to watch Lifeflight land the car did well.
Does real well in the snow for the 50 mile one way commute with the Snow tires. (Love getting over 40 mpg when the Suvs are slipping and sliding off the road getting 15mpg if they are lucky.)
I hope they (Toytoa) don't screw it up with the new model.

I certainly don't like the looks of the two lights in the bottom of the rear bumper. Were they trying to get a symmetrical look and make the front bumper fog lights look like the rear bumper lower lights?
It looks fine! Would you rather replace intake gaskets every 50K???????????????

I disagree. I would wait and gamble that whatever Pontiac has behind the disguise in these Edmunds spy photos of new Vibe will still be better than the new Corolla, which reminds me of a hippopotamus.
It's also disappointing, because in Europe they will get this pocket rocket 5dr hatch.
But let's not pretend that we get any real fuel sippers here in the USA. A 5dr Civic diesel gets about 43MPG (Imperial gallons) in town and 65MPG highway according to British website Whatcar.
I would jump at $15K for a loaded Carolla!!We know they are like the energizer bunny and just keep going and going and going....They are comfortable for people that are big or small. They are great on gas!!
