There is now a blinking "up" arrow on Volvo

Define "no tools"? I mean does that literally mean zero tools? No Ratchet, no sockets, no screwdrivers?

I'm all for learning, but some of what this car needs is not "learning" material, and at this juncture I think the money for needed tools would be better spent on having a quality professional assessment of the car.

All these lights and little issues coupled with an owner that could not or would not do the needed repairs and maintenance is why this car ended up on a used car lot in the first place.

Question for the Volvo AWD/FWD crew, is there any equivalent to the brickboard 700/900 FAQ for this car?

Matthews is great.

I spend some time on www.volvoxc.com (which I've linked for the OP previously) - great resource for the P2 platform...not quite as active a forum for this version...partly because there are fewer examples of it out there...but a good resource for tech and expertise...

Actually, it means the ejector seat is armed.

The driver is advised to eject promptly before the TB bites the dust and all [censored] breaks loose.

All we need now is that old Swiss hag to come running out with the machine gun . . .

$3k, $2k . . . Mt. Everest, K2.

All the same to a man without arms.

Stop the hate. This is a forum for helping people fix their cars. I was born without tools, knowledge, or experience, but I figured out if I asked I came out ahead most times.

No hate at all.

The OP has zero money and is looking at thousands in repairs within a week. Even with desire and skill, you still need tools, some specialized, to work on these yourself. The OP has no tools. Tools cost money.

That's almost an insurmountable mountain for just about anyone.

It's not hate, it's reality.

Trust me, I'm trying to help the OP more than anyone here. But it doesn't look too good at the moment.

I know we seem harsh, but the OP does not even have the resources to complete an oil filter change and he owns a Volvo that probably needs substantial maintenance immediately. I say probably because as far as I know he has not yet availed himself of ANY of the excellent advice he has been given (IE tried to track the car from the selling dealer, pull upper timing cover inspect belt, replace ABS module which was identified as bad on about page two of the very first post about this car). It is a familiar scenario with a predictable outcome.

We are simply trying to save the poor car from the OP and the OP from himself.

That is not intended to be mean, but it represents the facts as I see them.

I bid $200.00 when the timing belt breaks, provided he doesn't burn up the transmission and/or AWD first.

His timing belt's not going to break. Come on, you KNOW how this works. I did mine 5K early, water pump/cam seals/all pulleys...didn't change the tensioner, because 2 guys at the dealer told me not to bother if it wasn't leaking. I'm sure you can guess what happened. Meanwhile, the one on this car will probably go until 250K. Not recommending that strategy, but that's just how life goes! It's like my buddy with the 200K Subaru doing 50K oil changes. That car will probably outlast mine...

I agree with eljefino, most of the doom and gloom is overstated, with the exception of the t-belt. If that goes, the repair will cost more than the cost of the car. The other stuff? Maybe I owned too many Volvos, but that's just like putting in gas, stuff you have to do to keep the car running. Most of it can be done on the cheap. He'll soon be complaining about a loud click from the driver's side door. It's OK, there's a cheap for that, too!

I know! I looked at Google right after I made the post.

This car is sort of my "darling baby" right now.. I feel compelled to share almost anything that happens with it? This before it gets to Sam's.

I am unsure if I can do a VSS and am debating the ABS myself, but Oil Filter is still a go.

And this time, I topped up the AT *just enough* to make the light go off.. not overfill. It may still be low, but dont go pushing it. Right?

GT,

It's your voice of budgetary reason checking in.

You're still saving for that likely T-belt job.

If you take anything from the dialogue, it should be:

Don't invest a single penny other than for the oil change (and maybe a $4 battery hold down clip), until you get the T-belt done. Not a single cent. Perhaps even the oil change has to wait (how about that, on a motor oil site no less).

ABS, VSS, it all has to wait. Enjoy the light show. Just don't let it overheat or the oil pressure collapse.

Every additional dollar you dump into this car is burned if the T-belt snaps when running.

If you have to park the car, so be it.

All the rest of it is a bunch of old wrench-twisting farts who want to help you, but who also like to clown around, this old f-a-r-t most of all (what's with this [censored] censor).

When the drama continues past a certain point you have to wonder if it is an elaborate troll. How do we know this isn't Metal Slug/Carnoobi/a few other's we have forgotten? Carnoobi had a $1700 water bill, this guy has a 410 lb. girlfriend. See any similarities in (in)credibility?

TMW,

I don't think it's a troll at all.

I've had quite a few PMs from GT over this car.

He's a very real person from what I know. Very exuberant, very excited about all of this, and perhaps running too fast at times. I believe him when he says he just wants to share his day to day discoveries with all of us. It's all new to him, which is both good and bad (right now, mainly bad).

But he's no troll.

I don't think there's a scintilla of hate in any of these threads. I just think some of the more cutting comments from us are attempts at levity or a recasting of the reality to try and relieve some of the difficulty of the situation.

If GT pulls it off, I'll be the first to tip a beer in his honor.

I'll add this.

GT is a thousand times more refreshing than those OPs that ask something and then completely disappear after well-meaning members take the effort to build up a helpful response of 20 or 30 posts.

He at least is staying engaged with it, and keeping up a dialogue. Perhaps not following the advice some of us would like, but he's responding back.

I kind of look forward to GT's daily reports.

I got that sense from his first few posts...that's why I've been so prolific in replying on his threads...I've owned a few of these things...I want to help him.

I am pulling for him, it just seems he is up against insurmountable lack of resources.

JOD, I hope you are right - if he had my luck the TB would have broken already, so I guess there is hope.

In that case, I retract my suggestion. Maybe I'm getting too old for all the forum drama.

Hate? Nah, no one here wishes this guy ill in the slightest. Possible some of us including me are a bit jaded because we have seen this story play out before but that's about it.

Quite frankly this story is a refreshing read over the normal stuff posted here.
