There is now a blinking "up" arrow on Volvo

When I was 22 and had $1000 to my name I got a 17 year old cadillac cimarron when my previous car's transmission spontaneously grenaded (and not for lack of maintenance). It taught me how to wrench. The thermostat was sticking closed and every cold start it would overheat worse and worse before that stat slammed open.

I scraped together $12 and went to home depot and got a metric wrench set, 8mm-17mm. I still have those wrenches and even used them professionally in a tire store for a spell.

I fixed that thermostat in a snowstorm: I worked nights and was doing it bleary eyed at 8 am so the RTV would have time to cure before I added coolant so I could drive it to work.

It all worked out!!! I kept the car a while longer and after a bunch of 2.5x overtime over the holidays where I was working 70 hour weeks I got a cutlass ciera that was a decade newer and scrambled my way to stable adulthood.

I feel this excitement in Gearheadtool and will help him out with as much internet advice as I can type!!!

Thanks guys! And, correct.. I am not a troll! Just an enthusiast, with a Volvo. And I am a Volvo... head...

Topping up the ATF 1/4 qt really made that stuff earlier go away. The sensor is what we are aware of. Taking notes on noises, etc. My friend and I both are going to be aware, and we heard what sounded like a brake shoe catching from the rear.. Something to be aware of.

I look forward to where this goes in the future, and JHZR2 if you want to make a "MAster running GT's Volvo XC70" thread from this/others, please, feel free!

The next update will be as to the oil filter when the money comes in.

Oh, and I got a job at a Sunoco gas station by the traffic circle in Braintree. W00T!

$4.21 a gallon 2 days ago for Ultra 94. COME ON DOWN!!! 2 miles from my home.

$4:21 a gallon, i know that US Gallons are slightly smaller than UK but it is £1:39 for unleaded here, admitredly minimum is 95Ron.
But a litre is approx $2:20/30 here.

So over $10 a gallon roughly.

And people.on the forum.wonder why most EU and UK cars are diesel.

Though the OP can be assured his vehicle takes to an LPG conversion like a natural.

A friend in Aberdeen has one, same years as OP same engine etc.

So why even bring it up? That is like calling someone out in person a bad expletive name and then taking it back. Once thrown out there, you made your point and can not be coy and hide behind it.

What says the crowd? I tend to like individual issues to be in individual threads, though I can see that the "adventure" of this car purchase could all be lumped into one...

GT, even if we dont combine everything, perhaps you could start a thread at some point that highlights the issues, and your fixes, as youve attacked each one.

Get that TB done quick!!!!

I like the idea of just lumping it all together.
One stop for everyone.

Otherwise, this thread seems to be keeping a good pace.

Here's all you need to fix the ABS yourself:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12651

my suggestion-if you really don't want to/can't afford to send it out, remove the case and open it yourself, then take it to a place with a soldering station--say a small PC repair guy, and have them go over the solder joints. He'll probably charge you $10.00-$20.00. It'll literally take 5 minutes. The work is getting the ABS module opened up. You have to exercise great care in splitting the case, which is why I'd recommend sending it out, but if you want to DIY, this is how to do it.

I like this post. (JHZR2, let's make this the "Running GT's Volvo" thread? Perhaps an Admin rename? Is that ok?)

Well, the ABS is doing the Intermittent thing, also speedo drop-outs. I have had readings of code P1633 and P0722. I am tempted to either A. Do what is suggested here (assuming it is still that E-5 Torx socket,) or B. Buy this and replace it with what I have, reinstall, and send out my old one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...atchlink:top:en (socket included)\

I have changed spark plugs and I can do an oil change, so, I am fairly certain I can do this. I could buy this, take a day, put it in, and mail off the old one.. $100 for the part (reman, certified) including the socket.. I could mail back my old, drive it, and see if everything is good.

Recommended? Thank you!

I get paid tomorrow, so I may be able to actually get this thing orderded and in the mail tomorrow.. maybe a Friday or Saturday fix=it for the ABS!

This car is driving "Tina" (lol guys. Hehe, my diva-ish friend. I love it. She is good people, though, serious.. board levity) to Western Mass next week (rehearsal,) "a town bordering Boston" the end of October for a concert, Kennebunkport, ME sometime in November for a wedding and a certain nearby T stop, every morning.. with the option of grocery-getting/trips to Boston/wherever else in the meantime. We get around. OH, and almost forgot trip to CT about the same time as Western Mass but a weekend trip that is... See? Volvo. So, yes, it would be $100 well spent. And no trips to a computer guy that could say no...
