I've always had some interest in mining. I realy like going underground in old mine tunnels and such. I've never found anything worthwhile.

Last Sunday I went out in the desert near my house and I found an old mine so I wandered in. Inside it was a bunch of pretty blue rocks so I grabbed a few handfulls on my way out.

So these rocks have been rolling around in my Jeep and being annoying so I took them out at work and set them on a table. A friend of my boss was there. He has done a lot of Gold prospecting. He looked at one of my rocks and said that he could see gold specs in it.

I was thinking that he was joking untill he pointed them out to me! 30 minutes later we had my pretty blue rocks all smashed up into dust and we were out in the cold panning what was left of them.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing as we panned. 2 small gold nuggets and a bunch of tini flakes were left in the pan.

We took the nuggets 2 doors down to a gold prospecting store and they confirmed that we had gold!

Maybe I should change my screen name to Claimjumper?

I'd make a few hundred more trips. With a pickaxe. And a shovel. And a generator and some lights.

and some dynamite!

Uuuumm....I'll go against the grain and say you SHOULD NOT go back there.

That mine probably 'belongs' to someone, and if they go in there, and catch you, you most likely will not come out. They'd assume you were a burglar, and use their right of property defense to shoot you in a heartbeat.....

Chris' LG_VX 8360 phone doesn't record GPS info on it's pictures.

If you get caught in the mine say you were looking for bat guano for your garden.

How can you tell what kind of phone I have by the pic?

I have found out some info on the mine. I know it's name and It's first claim was in 1884. I am going to go to the BLM and see if there is an active claim on it. It's in an open off road area and on BLM land so most likely any claims on it have expired.

I'll know more after I talk to the BLM. There are literly 100's of old mines in this area but this was the first time that I've actully got color out of one.

Its called EXIF data. Its saved with the image and it contains all sorts of info.
It also says the last one was taken at 7:12PM
Some phones save GPS coordinates with the image, which I think is retarded.

I've spent most of this week finding out info on this mine. Most of it's activity was in the 40's.

The guy that had the claim on it had the claim untill 1995 when he died. His wife took it over until 2001 when she died. Neither of them had been to it in decades, just kept paying the $100 per year to keep the claim active.

The claim was forfitted when she died and there has not been any claims on it since. I'm not claim jumping and it's in an open area where anybody can go and camp, ride ATV's etc.

I just got back from there. This time I took several buckets of dirt from several different places so I can narrow down my search.
