The Volvo didn't start yesterday.

1. I visited the Volvo. I was not present when it was started. My friend tells me that is started "weakly," as in the "cranks two or three times, THEN starts" thread.

2. We puled up to gas station, as gauge indicated about 4 or 6 gallons.. I forget, but it was getting low.

3. Turned off the car and a. Filled it with 14.7 gallons 93
b. Cleared the codes/MIL with my Actron.

4. Car turned, turned turned, turned.. wouldn't start. I tried pumping the pedal and we smelled gas (engine flooded, I guess) .. but no start.

Dead fuel pump? Dead VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor?)

?

Discuss.

5. Was towed directly to Sam's, Thanksgiving night. It is there now.. custody of my friend..
 
CPS maybe. A common hot start problem on lots of different makes and models.

Try putting this in at Google.

no start warm site:swedespeed.com

Why not search more specific forums that know these cars?

Cool. I can only hope it gets diagnosed right. Acted a LOT like "no fuel," but we smelled gas so i am sure it was something else. Had to be towed out of there. Would NOT start. Wouldn't catch at all, not even a little bit...

What is CPS?

Time to sell this liability.

This has now began to turn into the money pit that myself and several others said it would.

Sell now or regret it is my advice.

reminds me of chebbiboy.

there is no need for discussion. its a money pit that you cant fix yourself. You would be better off buying a non moneypit before you put another $$$$ into it and then it falls apart.
ie needs a transmission, timing belt breaks and you need a new top end.. etc.

The answer to your "don't know how you did it" statement is simple:

You didn't look hard enough.

Tank holds 17 gallons. If it took 14.5 to fill it, you ran it low. Letting a car sit with low fuel invites problems; condensation, varnish, ethanol moisture absorption...

Pumping the pedal is NOT recommended...read the manual...

Fuel pump energizes with cranking but injectors won't fire unless spark is present. Spark won't fire without cam position and crank position sensor input.

You cleared the codes...did you READ them?
 
I'm not going to join the "I told you so" chorus.
If it were the timing belt, the thing would crank really rapidly with no start.
You got a deal on this car.
It's going to go through a period of things failing due to its age and mileage.
That's why you got a deal on this car.
I'd bet that the no-start conditon is something simple, like the CPS others mentioned.
If the basic guts of this car are good, and they likely are, spending a little money on fixing age related failures will end up being money well spent.
This is a Volvo, after all, not a Ferrari nor even a Porsche.
As others have noted, a Volvo site would be a better source of advice than this one, although there are some experienced Volvo owners on here who've been trying to give you helpful advice.
Once you get the current problem fixed, resolve to do the timing belt.
Otherwise, everything done to date, including the original purchase, is for nought.
 
I have tried to follow your various threads but it's difficult. From what I have read you are on a fairly tight budget (no problem there, completely understand) and are depending on others to perform basic repairs. Your troubleshooting skills seem to be limited to clearing codes and if they reappear buying a more expensive scanner to clear them.

If you are committed to keeping this car I would recommend finding a good independent garage experienced with Volvo's and pay them for a complete evaluation an work with them to address priorities/cost. Your current method is a blind gamble and Sam mat or may not have your interest in mind

I would recommend that you find a inexpensive car (initial price and cost to maintain)and have it inspected thoroughly prior to purchase.
 
I don't think he got "a deal" on this car, he got stitched up by a dodgy dealer who wanted a sucker like GearHead to take it off his hands with no comebacks in relation to consumer rights.

A private buyer can sell a dodgy car and in the UK at least it is buyer beware.

But a trader has to sell the goods as reasonably fit for purpose, and a trader can't sell a car to a member of the public as a trade sale.

I can't see that these things are much different in the US.

A dodgy trader is the same wherever they are in the world IMHO.

I agree that the dealer saw this "mark" coming from a miles away!

The fact that the buyer likely give the dealer hints about his financial situation and such would have caused a "reputable" outfit to push him towards a more manageable vehicle.

But these music "artist" types want a bit of "cool" I suppose, I can see GHT wanting this ill advised Volvo purchase.

if you have nothing helpful or nice to say, dont say it. otherwise give him helpful suggestions. not everyone can afford a brand new or nearly new vehicle like in your tagline. he is excited about his "new to him" car. move along.
