And im really baffled at this? .. the car:

1) I start it. It recently startesd tuning over "faster" .. unles it just did that the one time? Strange!
2) About 4 seconds into turning, we heard a "Whirrrrrrrrrr" like an electric seat motor sound. Of course it wasnt the seat im no sayting it was, just descriving the noise it made MID-CRANK and i let off the key and turned it again, and it turned some more..
3) I pumped the gas pedal and it wanted to catch. Three more times it "amlost caught" before it started, and died..
then started when i turned the key again, did not match with gas, and died..
and then started, and it ran.

When it made the "Electric seat motor" noise someeone said "Sounds like the Water Pump."
Umm, WHAT?
WHY would he say that?

This is the 84 amaro 2.8

And it starts up fine most times
sometimes i press the gas pedal once and turn the key, it willl start in a few cranks
sometimes i dont TOUCH the gas, it will turn and start
ometimes i let it turn, then pump the gas.. this takes the longest.

What is going on???????????

The electric noise could have been the fuel pump. Try turning the key to the on position and listen for the noise. It should run for a couple seconds when the key is turned. If you hear the pump kick on, wait for it to stop, remove the key wait 5-10 sec and turn the key "on" again. The hard start may be from a fuel pump going bad, cycling the pump should it "prime" the system.

I had a similar problem on my 2.8 Fiero and that was how I figured it out.

.. I have na electric fuel pump on my carburated 1984 2.8 Camaro??? And sometimes, it starts WITHOUT doinh that!! if i pump the gas a few time it "Seems" to help

And alsothe cranking STOPPED when that noise happpened, and lasted for as long as i held key, making me think STARTER ????

.. ?

And sometimes it smokes on startup and sometimes it does not
weird!!!

Reread this guys, the initial post wasn't too clear but from what I gather it sounds like the starter is going out.

I have a problem 'related' to this, my fuel pump has been making some noise lately during operation while idling(almost sounds like a bearing allowing a fan to turn at a certain low RPM but different)...

What happens is my relay/solenoid on the starter has a bad bendix(at least) and when initially trying to turn my key to the crank position, it will blow a fuse under the hood. Sometimes, it takes upwards of 10 fuse replacements. I will replace the starter and hope the problem is fixed, a shop recommended replacing the starter while doing other maintenance. Why is interesting is that the fuse in question relates to the fuel injection somehow(fuse is FUEL IGN SWTCH)...

FWIW, I believe the starter is compromising the fuel pump(delayed starting causing the fuel pump to produce symptoms?)...I'm a newb so take what I say in regards to this with a pound of salt.

Otherwise, you have poured a TON of fuel additives into your gas tank lately, so it wouldn't surprise me if the fuel pump is going.

So you're saying that all of the fuel additives caused the fuel pump to fail which caused the starter to stop cranking the engine? Come on guys...

It could be the water pump, the vehicle is old and has issues. It also has a mechanical fuel pump and a carb which could be the reason for hard starting, and some of the other issues the OP has. One of which can be fuel dilution. [Note: probably not related to the sound, but could be the reason for the smoke, thinning oil]. W/O actually hearing the noise making a diagnosis is very hard. Your car has a mechanical fuel pump. You're not going to hear it.

I suspect your starter is going bad, the "bendix" as mentioned above. It flings the starter's gear into the flexplate teeth; without it the motor just spins itself and not the engine.

This is how it started this morning
It started and died.. has "Intermittent symptoms" which SOMETIMES include smell/possible appearance of gas between front tires and well it runs pretty darn well when warmed up. I seem to have "boosted compression" somehow, i think i know how..

but thats how it started this morning
and yes, its as full of gas as can be! Wont be on Sundat though, got a drive

EDIT: at 1:53 i zoomed in on tailpipe to show NO smoke at all, some mornings it has some (?) that starts up like 15 seconds after it starts on mornings it does then goes away, not "immediate" again, weird, and mid-way through the instrument light ALWYAS comes on if the car stalls, and i thought you coul dhear but you couldnt a noise that sounded liek the spark plugs were firing, with the engine off but the key still in the "Run" position, after engine starts. FYI thx
