guys i have just finished the perfect paint job on my son in laws 1969 nova, this is a 5 year project and i spent the last month painting, color sanding and buufing to get a perfect paint job . what do you folks think is the very best wax to use?

Well, that's certainly different than a factory paint, daily driver car.

After all that fuss to achieve perfection, I would not touch it with anything (avoid micro marring) until you learn proper products and techniques. It's amazing how just using the wrong applicators (pads or towels) can ruin the finish.

If it were mine, I would go to a dedicated detailing forum like autopia and seek their real world experience.

Have fun....and lets see some pictures!

Best wax for what: glow, protection, longevity, etc. I like Collinite 845 which has great longevity and a good glow and is inexpensive.

Wait 30 days before wax, check this thread, Im sure Chevy Criuze wax is good enough...

I agree. This is like the best oil thread.....define best, what do you want out of it?

On a serious note. I used AutoGlym HD wax on my car about 4 months ago. I need to apply another coat, but it lasted a good bit. Looke very good.

The best wax will really depend on what colour , type of paint you have used, and your personal preference. Remember wax is only the final step to a well cared finish.

I would definitely agree with Doitmyself in saying to check in at autopia, it's a wealth of knowledge.

Meguiarsonline is also a great source , however biased towards their products (which I own many of but am not only meguiars guy)

Bluestream is right in waiting 30 days before wax. Paint can take that long to cure. But I would think you have had plenty of time seeing the work you have put into it.

Lastly! I am with Bigmike, POST SOME PICTURES !

Well, I'm certain that your talking about keeping the shine as long as possible with out scratching/maring the paint or putting in those micro fine surface swirls that are only seen in the right light.

As others have mentioned, let the paint cure for at least a month prior to your first application of what ever product you end up deciding on.

You'll want to use waxes that have no abrasives. Carnuba has some of the best shine qualities but don't seem to last long. But, that lack of longevity only pertains to a DD that sees all of the elements. For a garage queen, Carnuba is probably perfect!

Silicones probably have the longest lasting protection and I'm sure that there are products that contain both silicone/carnuba, IDK!

No abrasive products, only micro fiber towels or softer materials that I am unaware of. Asking those in the "Show Car Feild" is your best bet for getting the correct products for your hard work. Many don't even use water anymore, only those dry type washing solusions so that they never get water down into the grooves, window channels, panels/seams ever again, as to prevent rust from ever starting.

Man, this is a tough question!

Did you end up clear coating it? Secondly what are you looking for out of the wax? To make the care look the best it can or make it look pretty good with good durability. Are you looking for shiny or deep look? Are you looking for something easy to apply or does spending time and multiple steps on a wax okay with you?

guys the car is bc cc with 7 coats of clear, my son says iam computer illerate and since i do not know how to post some pictures he is surely right. believe me the bright red paint is perfect. i just gave my son in law some adams buttery wax i got from summit racing, the sale guy says it is the best they have

I used Zymol Carbon for my red 911. It worked very good. You apply it with your fingers, and not with a foam pad. I now have Zymol Titanium for my truck. It is expensive, but it lats a long time.

The Royale is actually VERY good. For my dd, I just use Vintage. Great stuff! Do you have pics? What type of paint?

But for that I would use something from Groits.

There stuff can't be beat.

How about some photos of the car.

Another Griot's user! I have been using their products for about 10 years and have found nothing better.

I think that with the level of quality in that newnpaint job, the fact that it is not driven daily and you just need a pure wax/sealant without cleaners that will offer maximum gloss and shine over protection - we should all agree that NuFinish is NOT the product to use here!!
