I have heard about this thing way out in the desert for many years. Nobody knows why it's there or what it's purpose was. Or how they got it up there.

Got a chance to go check it out yesterday. I was one of the few that actually hiked up to it. That's me waving a bottle of water next to it.

I kinda think it's some kind of prank myself. Whatever it is it is well documented.

That's really cool. What's the earliest recorded sighting of it?
I can't find that. It's in a very remote area. Not many would be out there if it was not there. One piece of pipe inside it is galvanized. How long has galvanized been around? It's made from many pieces of metal cut and welded to form it's shape. Bolted together in the middle with square nuts but 6 sided bolts.

They drilled holes in the rocks to mount it. How did they do that? By hand like the old miners did with a hammer and bit? Nobody knows.

Off topic, but seeing your pictures reminds me how much I love driving through the desert. 100 mile visibility. Far better driving in the desert than driving though a forest of trees that make it seem like you're driving in a ditch.

The narrator suggests maybe it's an art project or a prank. That would be my best guess. The fact that it's a total mystery is what makes it so awesome!

Thanks!

Its amazing the stuff you see all over the American deserts and forests.

Paul Revere used it to shout "The British are Coming!"

Are there any mines nearby? Maybe an alert for when dynamite was about to be used.
