Likewise. Fabulous outcome for a parent, could have been horrific.

Hopefully lesson learned and life goes forward! Good luck...

99 Accord is a dime a dozen and disposable car.

People's lives are not glad it worked out.

Hopefully your son adjusts his sleeping driving habits so he does not hurt himself or anyone else. I fell asleep once too however was lucky to be in a farmers corn field in the midwest and was able to drive off. I am beyond fearful of driving tired.

I learned in college 22 minute nap makes you quite refreshed. I still follow that.

The car did its job and your son, thank God, is OK. That's what matters the most.

Also a little tip that I learned from my FIL who is a long haul truck driver, if you feel that tired just pull over somewhere safe and get a power nap. Usually 15-30 minutes is enough and does wonders at boosting your stamina.

I did that many times when my wife and I used to travel a lot by car on the weekends. We did a lot of night runs, straight after work, so naturally around 1-2 am my eyes would start to close on me. A 15-30 minute nap would get me going for another several hours.

Thank God he's OK, the car can be replaced. He sounds a lot like my son saying he doesn't want help.

I just sat through a defensive driving online class. The amount of accidents caused by people falling asleep behind the wheel is a lot higher than you'd think.

Good news for your boy. This ought to make him re-think some things. Got a 9 year old daughter and I'm already worrying about her driving around.....

We are too.
Any one of us would gladly die in place of one of our children.
The thought of having to bury a child is every parent's worst nightmare.

Oh man, every parent's nightmare. Glad it came out OK. You're kid is admirable, working 2 jobs and going to school. In your shoes, I would urge your son to quit one job and offer to pay him to sleep. I worked 2nd shift and went to school full time to learn electronics. I barely lasted the 20 hour days for 6 months.

Glad to hear your sun is okay. \

I do the 20 minute nap at work every day on lunch. Great way to get through the day without drinking loads of coffee!

While I was still in the Air Force, a young couple who lived across the street from me (in base housing) were involved in a wreck late one Saturday night. Their friend was driving a Honda Accord with a driver's side air bag only. My neighbors were in the passenger front (her) and in the back seat along with another friend. The girl who owned the car dozed off or something (no alcohol involved) and ran head on into a Chevy Lumina. Both cars were doing approximately 55 MPH. The young boys in the Lumina walked away (both having an air bag in front seats). In the Honda, the driver walked away and the other three died on impact. All were wearing their seatbelts, but the force of impact was too much. My neighbors were "just-married" 21 year olds and had a combined funeral.

AS SOON as I could afford it, I replaced both my girls cars with air bag equipped models. I then refused to sell the used cars to anyone looking for a car for their school aged kids.
