Uh huh, with all the crazy people out there jacked up on drugs (illegal and prescription)... one could find themselves the target of a road rager without having done anything wrong.
A good example is those traveling on a 2 lane road and the guy behind you cannot safely pass and expects you to get over on the shoulder of the road just so he can pass. (which is not safe)
There are some who think other motorists are supposed to get on the shoulder to let them pass even though there is no legal requirement to do so... and the guy behind you turns in to a road rager possibly deciding to take a shot at you.
Once that sort of thing gets started it may not end until you are dead and if one has no pea shooter to discourage this sort of thing then it could easily be the guy's last day on Club Earth even though he did nothing wrong.
It's better to have resources on hand and not need them... than it is it need them and not have them. I think most folks realize this which is why so many carry pea shooters ya know.
Law abiding citizens don't start gun fights, criminals do along with the criminally insane and those smokin the devil's lettuce and doing hard drugs.
The cops cannot be everywhere so law abiding citizens should have the ability to defend themselves until the cops arrive and then turn it over to them... or jump in and help the cops!
Dang not the devil's lettuce. I guess I gotta go out and start some trouble after this bowl.

Yep, hippies have a reputation to live up to ya know!
If one pays attention to national news (in the US) there are all kinds of road rage news stories and the majority of the time the road rager got all mad over something stupid.
Being prepared is far better than not being prepared

And sadly sometimes defensive driving turns in to self defense.

The only good thing about it, is that State Farm accepts it as the "safe driving course discount" so I don't have to waste 5 hours of my own life taking the defensive driving class

Some kind of System or The Creator "Himself", (yeah , MINE is an elderly, all knowing and all powerful MALE) was watching over me once again on the road today. Still kind of shocked I made it out of this one alive. Two vehicles right in front of me slammed into each other. Totalled out both of them and one ran into me as I sat at the red light. Ugh. I had the very same exact type of wreck happen right in front of me about a year back except this time I got tagged. I need to just say "so what. I will repair the damage." I need to forget that and be grateful I did not get injured like the two demolition derby drivers did. Need to thank The Man Upstairs again! I helped them out and watched as EMTs put them on boards and off in the ambulances. I got to drive mine to the house. 
No No, there's only two rules of driving:
Rule # 1 - Always watch what's going on in front of your car
Rule # 2 - Remember the first rule!
As for tailgaters I go into "Work to rule" mode and just do exactly the speed limit... drives 'em nuts!
