Again show me the link, and the data.
I did. 4 out of 10 accidents are caused by distracted drivers. That is 40%. what more do you need to know?

Source? The only study I could find with those numbers was a nationwide study from 2010 using a question about cell phones and other technology.I did. 4 out of 10 accidents are caused by distracted drivers. That is 40%. what more do you need to know?
There are several studies that would question that. But, back to the OP/TS … think he’s seeing a peeing contest taking shape … IIHS is already “monitoring” (sorry) so doubt they reach 27” without intervention …According to a Stanford Law School report, at least 90% of all motor vehicle crashes are caused fully or in part by human error.
So it ain't the screen. It's the Bozos.
Take away the cell phones and touch screen radios and people will fiddle with CD’s, take that away and they’ll fiddle with the radio, take that away and they’ll just move onto the next thing. I remember seeing people reading newspapers on the highway (and the choice words my mother called them) when I was a kid. The problem isn’t touch screens or anything else…. The problem is human nature pure and simple.I'll agree with that. They shouldn't drink and drive either, but they do. Everything you're saying proves that the bulk of drivers out there are distracted idiots. And the numbers back it up. And yet you can't comprehend that all of this electronic wizardry isn't adding to the problem? Cell phone use alone while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. Nearly 390,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving. 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.
Distracted drivers are causing this, by not paying attention. And yet you can't understand that giving them more toys to distract them with, isn't going to cause a bigger problem? Come on. What's next, beer taps built into the counsel for DUI recipients?

Thank you for the share, will do some reading of the NHTSA study tonight as I find the topic very interesting. I like how they reference emotional causal relationships. I think people over look mood in how they drive and the potential impact that can have.According to a Stanford Law School report, at least 90% of all motor vehicle crashes are caused fully or in part by human error.

Where are you getting this accident rate info. I can only find death rate statistics for NHTSA but would love to look at the accident information. The death rate per 100,000,000 miles has dropped year on year between 2015-2019 it surged in 2016 but seems to be dropping to normal levels despite Americans driving 88 billion more miles. Death rate is half that of 1988 and 37.5% lower than 1999.The problem is nobody is "taking away" anything. They're adding to the problem. Cell phones upped the accident rate astronomically. Texting on those same cell phones drove it up much higher. Playing with all these on board electronics and do dads are adding still more to it. The problem is getting worse, not better. More crap = more accidents.
Curious... What's in 2nd place? Inclement weather perhaps? There are several studies that would question that. But, back to the OP/TS … think he’s seeing a peeing contest taking shape … IIHS is already “monitoring” (sorry) so doubt they reach 27” without intervention …
Touch screen as distraction would count as human error.According to a Stanford Law School report, at least 90% of all motor vehicle crashes are caused fully or in part by human error.

No! It's the car's fault!!!!Touch screen as distraction would count as human error.
Elon? Elon and cars go together as fish and desert. No! It's the car's fault!!!!
You can't blame the nut behind the wheel!
Elon's whack, right?
Not horrendous 4WD, but still not GOOD human factors engineeringThis is my Jeep dash … nice big grippy knobs or buttons … I tend to only need the screen somewhat for navigation and normally tell the lady behind the dash that I’m looking for a POI …
Note screen off button as well

Take away all that stuff and soon all we'll be able to do behind the wheel is drink!Take away the cell phones and touch screen radios and people will fiddle with CD’s, take that away and they’ll fiddle with the radio, take that away and they’ll just move onto the next thing. So My passenger cant use the nav or android auto while moving now...
because of all the bozos crashing.
Cant they make you pinky swear its the passenger using it or something?
I can use the car voice command but its so horrible its like you are speaking foreign language.
The android auto voice command works decently but sometimes makes odd mistakes.
I added a restaurant stop that was 3 miles away and it had me going to my destination, then driving back to restaurant..
And We couldnt change anything because.. moving.
I was about to pass what I thought was the exit.
So ended up pulling off.. had wife fix the nav then pulling back on road.. THAT IS SAFER RIGHT THERE!
(was 2 exits later but unfamiliar with area)
There was a reason why the Germans were last to adopt cup holders and if they did, they were flimsy. They wanted the driver to focus on driving.Take away all that stuff and soon all we'll be able to do behind the wheel is drink!
Radio controls on the steering wheel and are 100% by feel … of course driver display and cruise are there too …Not horrendous 4WD, but still not GOOD human factors engineering
It was hard to beat the Knob for Temp, Knob or ir direction and KNob for Fan speed.
I find the buttons for air direction and recirc - similar to what I have in my Ford too consuming
They should not jam everything and in to one "stylized" control interface.
Radio and vehicle functions are mixed in with HVAC. The knobs or buttons need differentiation in size, shape and placement.
I would guess there are major cost drivers here - and there shouldn't be for safeties' sake.
A woman, a former Hudson police officer, was just hit and killed by a distracted driver in my Town of Kingston, NH. She was bike riding on the road shoulder. - Ken
