the purple dye in Royal Purle oil

Well I noticed that color means nothing. Last time I used Mobil 1 5w30 it looked like atomic radioactive urine. Some oils are dark, some are light, and some seem clear. Some are just funky colors. It means nothing as to its performance for the most parts.

Nice thing about colored oil is that if you have your oil changed and you give them Royal Purple, Brad Penn, or another colored oil.....you can tell if they switch it out for a cheaper product.

RP's color changes quickly and disappears.
ATF used to be red, oil amber, and anti freeze was green.
This was an aid to differentiation, and a standard.
ATF is still red. No doubt is is a colorant.
I would not worry one second about the dyes used.

LOL!!!

I've used Cherry red oil before, like syrup and smelt so sweet, kids would eat it. I have used Green Blue etc. I think most oils use dyes of some sort. Even to give characteristic brown colour. They should use more, easier to see the oil in first few thousand k's when still clean on dipstick.

I believe they color their synerlec additive so they can tell the difference between it and the PAO.

But, they do dye their (Brad Penn) oil green correct? I was just responding to the question, "what other oil's are dyed".

I see a marketing opportunity to sell dye additives for people who want their oil to be a special color. Might be market among those who like to put a dozen or so racing stickers all over their car and have big park bench spoilers on the rear deck.
