Stubby legs are hard to live with. Poor Impreza has to scream just to keep up with the slower traffic! 😂

What year is this Impreza? That is pretty short gearing for an automatic? It seems you have the same final top gearing that my Focus has, but I right lane camp at 65 mph which the engine seems pretty happy at, and fuel economy is good still.
I did really consider getting a 2017 Outback with a manual, but some goofy US emissions test forces the top gears to be short on manuals, and the 2018's were improved and engineered to be quieter so I went with the CVT. Also I find the subaru engine doesn't really sound the greatest around 2500 to 3000 rpm, and silent below 2000 which the CVT keeps it at almost all the time.

Many years ago I had 26" tires (225/70r14) on a 65 GTO with 3.90 gears and a four speed with 1:1 fourth gear. Definitely buzzed me pretty good on the interstate! But when you're a hungover 19 year old with a coffee in one hand, a Marlboro red in the other, and a Dokken cassette cranking out of your Jensen 6x9's ... ya just don't really notice the buzzing!

Got 4.88 in me truck. Meh. Yeah, 70 gets a little revy.

I put 4.88s in my Jeep and it gets up and moves pretty nice for a 215,000 mile 4.0 turning 35s! The problem I keep having is keeping the driveshafts balanced. They don't like scraping on rocks / logs too much and spinning > 3000 RPM on the highway.

The joys of a 4 cyl manual. My focus was the same way. The Evo was at 80mph was 3800rpm with no cat. My ears sure can't take that anymore .

I've owned several trucks that 55-60 mph was it.
I had to put a 4k governor spring in a 95 Dodge 3500 to have anything after 65mph.
