The Prius need for speed

I was rear-ended by a Prius on I-95, after traffic came to a halt for at least 2 seconds. Driver was constantly on others' bumper and almost hit me twice 5 miles back. Probably texting or some stupid [censored] because it is not possible to not brake in time after traffic around you already stop for 2+ seconds.

Offending driver is from Connecticut, is that part of New England? He is fortunately I don't drive a big OJ Bronco anymore as he would have been toasted. My bumper and tow hitch would be knocking his teeth and jaw off. Instead, he messed up my rear bumper.

That is unfortunate but the Prius wasn't driving itself. The accident was the drivers' fault because he obviously wasn't paying much attention. I saw your thread on that, I'm glad to hear no one was hurt.

Don't blame the game, blame the player.

Maybe those low resistance tires don't stop so well and Prius is MPG in design, not an ounce of performance in the equation.

Texting teenager per the OP and suddenly the conclusion is LRR tires are to blame. Well done.

I sometimes drive a Prius at work and I don't get what all the hate is for. It accelerates, stops, and handles perfectly fine. It's like driving a Camry or a Cavalier. It's not super-fast or exciting, but it's no worse than your average "appliance car." It's a bit goofy looking, (especially with all the stuipid graphics my company put all over it) but that's really my only complaint about it.

The suspension tech on the Prepuce is about 20 years behind the drivetrain, no question. However, as others have said, its no limiting factor in terms of starting, stopping, and normal driving performance. The car is more than adequate. Collisions are the fault of *some* driver or other, never the vehicle unless there's an outright mechanical failure (and even then the driver should be able to handle many types of mechanical failure without causing a wreck). Think of it this way: if you're driving your 1930's Model A, you should be driving it in proportion to its capabilities and not put yourself in a situation the car can't handle. And someone driving in traffic with a model A shouldn't jump in front of it and slam on the brakes, either, same as they shouldn't do that in front of a loaded 18-wheeler. Same goes for a top-heavy SUV, or a low-slung sports car that can decapitate you if you drive in such a way to wind up under an 18-wheeler. DRIVERS MUST DRIVE TO WHAT THE CAR CAN DO, not to their arbitrary whim.

This.

I have a friend who drives a Prius and she drives fine. I'd rather drive with her than with my buddy in his 5.3 Silverado who thinks it is a rally car, or my sister who thinks her Civic is in the Indy 500 on the last lap.

The driver is to blame not the vehicle.

Well stated.

When I see a Prius on the freeway, it's usually in one of the two left lanes going speed limit or it's on the surface streets thinking it's a race car.

I had one a week or so ago that was in the exit lane on the freeway going 45 mph and then proceeded to drive like a bat out of [censored] when I tried to pass it once off the freeway.

Same here. Prius hogging the far left lane at the speed limit or charging around town like a race car.

Or...tailgating up someones rear in the right lane of the highway or freeway of those going around the speed limit.

While I wouldn't say they are the absolute worst, they are right up there with the BMW crowd.

Top Gear did that stunt. 17MPG, Gen 2. Gen 3 would do much better (bigger, better engine).

This not what Prius is engineered for though. I hear battery in gen 2 overheats at those speeds. Not sure of gen 3.
