I swear every Prius I see on the highway is doing about 15mph over the speed limit. Of course people in other cars do as well, but its like its mandatory to drive like that in a Prius.

Maybe they're all suffering from a stuck gas pedal.

Around here it's not a Prius but a big suv that's always flying around you, Cadillac suvs, Tahoe, suburban, expedition ect..

lol.

Around here, they're either doing 10mph over or 10mph under.

LOL! Funny this should come up, as another board I'm on maintains that Prii are always the ones clogging up the left lane.

I agree, they're always the ones zooming ahead of everybody else. I got passed by two on my commute home today, a C and a V!

Wait, there used to be prius hate that they drove too slow.

Now there is prius hate and they drive too fast?

I guess you can't please the non-prius drivers.

You gotta be kidding... around here the Priusesesessss (Priuii?) are rolling chicanes, especially on the 80-mph speed limit toll roads. Granted, I think the 80 limit is too high for many vehicles like my Cherokee and generally use the right lane at about 75, but even then I have to jump left to dodge the Priuses all the time.

And there's no need... I KNOW that they can cruise over 80 if the driver wants too. Maybe they just don't feel safe at that speed, I've always found them a bit underwhelming as far as chassis and suspension goes. Great tech, not so great car fundamentals IMO.

German car drivers are the ones that seem to think they've imported part of the Autobahn along with the car... :-/

And then there are the ricers. Phart-cans, "ground effects," and giant wings are dwindling in numbers (through natural selection, I presume) but there are still a bunch out there... driving too fast and leaving a trail of blue oil smoke. :-/

yea they are either doing 90 and zig zagging or 55 in the fast lane... or my FAVORITE.. merging at 35 at the end of a 1/2 mile long ramp into 65mph+ traffic.

I think they want to keep it on electric only???

then they end up stopping on the berm instead of merging and almost cause a pileup.

abit of exaggeration but I've seen all these multiple times.

Its crazy,if I see a Prius on the highway, there is a 90% chance its haulin' butt.

Maybe they figure they can drive like that and still be more fuel efficient than the majority of the cars on the road.

I drive a Prius and normally drive the speed limit - however, I've noticed the exact thing you have. I am regularly passed by other Priuses on the highway doing 15mph+ what I am doing.

Seriously! I've noticed that [type of car] are always [action]!

Whenever I see one of these posts I think there are two possibilities:

1) There really is a trend wherever the poster is.
2) The poster is for whatever reason specifically noticing the annoying behavior in a particular class of vehicles, but hasn't made any scientific observations as to whether there really is a trend.

Knowing human nature, I always assume (2).

This is not meant as a knock on anyone.

Yeah, I see a lot of them haulin' it down the highway. I was that way a lot in my Honda Fit after I got over the whole desire to hypermile. Then I drove fast and angry because I was mad that practically every other car on the road would cut me off...

I noticed that, too. Prius drivers are always racing around. One guy almost forced me off the road at 70. He missed his next exit. I think he had to pay a toll.

My wife had a Prius (until the first snowfall). I had a hard time keeping my speed down in it. I know part of it is from not driving it regularly, of course, but I'm sure some was because there was less wind noise than my car. I expect little cars to be noisy, like my old GTI.
That Prius also maintained speed pretty well when coasting. I'd catch myself going faster than expected, take my foot off the pedal to coast, and it seemed to take a while to creep down.

I could absolutely care less about speeding of Prius.

However they are downright annoying gnats when it comes to consistent speeds and elongated hills. I find myself playing leapfrog up elongated highway hills once they loose battery power. Once they go back down they speed up/pass again until the next hill. I set my cruise to 80MPH and my Acura and wife's turbo Subaru lofts along same speed.

Had a Volt pass me today, and a Prius yesterday. Both must have been going 75+ mph.In their minds....they are still doing their part for the environment, even at 75.

They're still getting better fuel economy at 75 than most other cars out there. Well, the Prius is. The Volt, maybe, depending how much juice it had left in the battery.
