the OFFICIAL "Advance Auto Parts (AAP) closing" thread ... put ALL deals, rebates, etc here ... (forum rules still apply)

Additive separation or fallout. I usually heat ole new oil up bit on hot plate after shaking the quart/jug.
Do you think that really reconstitutes the mixture? I have "heard" that it does not. I do understand the old timey thought behind it though.

Either way, they should not be selling near 6 year oil oil either way, good deal or not. I may make a separate thread on it if one does not exist.

I am wondering if that is really effective or not.
Lake Speed Jr. has a video on older oil. The main takeaway I got from it was not the settlement of additives over time, but the absorption of moisture breaking down a stored oil. Storage of oil in climates of extreme temperature swings was more detrimental to it stored than one in a more stable climate control area. Old oil sitting at AAP store is going to see less of those extremes than some sitting in a non climate control garage or shed.

makes sense.

I saw the video.

The consensus is 3-5 years under the best conditions..........

FWIW, I have talked about it before, but SOPUS until the mid 2000's stated a 10 year shelf life for their oils. They only went to 5 years with the reasoning they had to draw a line where they would warranty their product due to evolving API standards and application of their oil to said standards.

From my lot, the jugs with the handle up top had the date code down on the side bottom area. Handles on the side had the date code on the upper side. Like mentioned, normal date format and not coded.

I caused a local shortage.
