the OFFICIAL "Advance Auto Parts (AAP) closing" thread ... put ALL deals, rebates, etc here ... (forum rules still apply)

Apparently their clearance tools are also 25% off the marked red tag price. I got a dope quick-open utility knife for $1.50.

Utility knives, diagonal cutters, and #2 phillips drivers - the three tools that I never want to have to track down.

Made my store rounds and picked up the 15 jugs I ordered today. With the 6 other gallons previously, I am at 21 gallons in the stash. One store tried to pass off Delo 400 XLE SynBlend 15W-40 in blue jugs for one order but I made them correct that.

I think I am done...........maybe.

AAP dug up some classic bottles for you. Looks like some spread in date codes.

got it for 8.95 per gallon, great deal. I think they were having issues with their site......as I was looking, the price changed several times.

Yeah, 21, 22 & 23 date codes. The last pickup was the printed caps with a 21 year date code.
Some of the bottles in my October pickup were 2017, so you did better than that. Look out for single handle bottles marked SN (not SN+) and no printed cap.

stopped by the same AutoZone with the manager who recognizes me today since I was passing within a block of the store...none left on the shelves and when I was headed towards the door he asked if he could help me...I started to tell him what I was looking for and he recognized me and said "we just put them in the back yesterday." and offered to check...

The manager said you wanted 5W-30 right? and I replied yes...he came out with the same 2-5 quart jugs that they had out before and scanned them at the register...then said they still ring up $27...let me see what I can do for you...how about $15 apiece...I said $30 for the two...YES...

persistence sometimes pays...

Uhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,Autozone?? or AAP !! Are your Hot Dogs tainted??

Would you guys use this in a car? What about in cars spec'd for 5w20 or 5w30? It's definitely not in the low end for a 40 weight. 15.4 viscosity @ 100C 😧

I plan to use it in my Ford Ranger with the 2.3L EcoBoost that specs 5W-30. I have done multiple analysis with various oils and it has a propensity to shear out of grade down to a 20wt even with fuel dilution of 0.5% or less.

This might blow your mind, but your 5w-30 car with 5w-30 already experiences the higher viscosity that it would experience with a 5w-40.

The difference between a 30 and a 40 is only about 10 deg F at operating temperature. IE, the viscosity your engine experiences at 200 F oil temperature with a 40 is what it experienced at 190 F with a 30. If running a grade thicker was problematic, engines would fall apart during warmup.

So a motor specified for 10-12 cSt oil at operating temperature, actually experiences FAR higher than 15 cSt during regular operation. The difference between 30 and 40 grade is dwarfed by the range occurring across normal temperature ranges.

I'd put it in our 2GR-FE without hesitation if I didn't already have a stash of M1-FS 0w-40. The biggest concern with a CK-4 oil in a gas engine would be LSPI. Even then, this stuff is still SN+.
