Does the V8 in this thing sound like it's sporting a 180 degree crank?

As to your question, though, I can't tell. A neighbor has a really elderly 308GT something, and that's the only flat plane I've heard. At least I think it's a flat plane.

It doesn't really sound like that F-Type.

I think it would be uncharacteristic of Jaguar to make such a harsh engine.

It's pretty snarly, but if they have the "Tasmanian Devil" supercharged one in the video, it's probably got dual mode exhaust (with a bypass flap). People who buy that configuration of this car don't do it by accident.
It sounds like a conventional layout to me, but with an X-pipe and dual mode exhaust. It reminds me of the Corvettes with that system. I should have recorded it when I rented them in Vegas...

I couldn't tell by the badging - that's why I asked what engine it had.

The supercharged AJ-V8 cars used to be badged Type R, at least they were when I was looking at an S Type R back in '05. The badging on both these cars looks to be "S", but they have different exhaust outlet locations and tips, so hard to say which car has what engine.

The S badging made me think it was the AJ-V6 and not the AJ-V8, but I honestly don't know how they are badging the F Type. I might be in the market for one of these, but it will probably be '14 or '15 at least before I venture back into the showroom.

In any event, our AJ-V8 has a dual plane crank, but I understand there are flat plane cranks, and the myriad other bits to make a flat plane AJ-V8, available in the aftermarket.

The exterior looks confused to me, don't really get the style. The interior looks like its out of an old Aston Martin.
