The message you don't want to see when tracking a package.

I'm not the only person in this area that is seeing this message, when tracking a package that *should have* arrived yesterday.

I've been told that it likely means that UPS had a semi that was involved in an accident or rolled over. And it was probably the semi that was en route to our local terminal.

"All merchandise missing, empty carton was discarded. UPS will notify the sender with details of the damage."

I contacted the vendor, and asked them to take a look at the tracking information. Their response was to ask me if I wanted them to reship ASAP at no charge, or if I wanted a refund...

I've got one better. Ordered some shaving supplies from a company in CA. Tracked the thing on FedEx's site all the way to Romeoville, IL, and saw a notation along the lines of 'damaged in transit, returning to shipper' and then tracked it all the way back to CA.

Vendor was really good about shipping a replacement package, I think before the old one even got back to them.

There was a glass bottle of aftershave that either broke or leaked on the way. Never did find out exactly what happened.

On mine, the bad news was from the large UPS hub there in Hodgkins.

I'm not sure why they just don't change the name of the town from Hodgkins, IL to UPS, IL. There's little else there other than UPS.

That's pretty wild. In the grand scheme of things, who cares about the contents of the trailer, so long as the driver and anyone else involved in the accident are OK!

Better? The OP's UPS tracking update is pretty extreme! Your damaged product? Seems pretty tame, in comparison.

Post Office not that detailed: I took a Priority Mail package to our post office counter...I got a receipt and an email "the post office has received your parcel".

That is it. Never scanned again, never delivered. Stolen by local crew?

I've got an EVEN BETTER story about a $1000 transmission that made it all the way to Waco and was even "on the truck - out for delivery"

I stayed home from work to "catch it" and the truck never showed up.

Long story short, I never got my transmission or my $1000 back.

Happened again 2 years later with a $200 motorcycle tire....

And AGAIN 3 years later with a $350 chainsaw.

I wish the brown truck company would die a horrible and painful death.

I hate them, I hate them, I hate them..... I really really hate them.

Last year I ordered a step ladder. About 3 weeks after ordering I got a message from Amazon saying it would not get to me as it was lost in shipment. Went up to Costco and bought one. Five months later USPS delivers the order from Amazon.

I had two door panels to return to an Ebay vendor, and he sent me a USPS label. I dropped the box off at my local USPS office at 2:45pm this past Tuesday. At 2:45 on Wednesday, and 10pm on Wednesday, the status of the package still said "Label Created - USPS awaiting package". A 5:00 this this morning (Thursday), it said "Out for Delivery". So....did Genie just pop it from here to North Carolina?

It could be the product got destroyed on the conveyor system and it's just a universal message on their tracking. It happens every so often and makes a mess (or a real big mess depending on what it is, motor oil is a real fun one...).

At least you can prove to the seller and the credit card company that you didn't receive the item, and you have some recourse. A much worse message to get is when the tracking says the package was delivered, but it actually wasn't. I went through those shenanigans a few years ago with FedEx. FedEx said they would look into it but they didn't. They kept giving me the run-around. The seller didn't believe me and told me to get lost. I ended up disputing the transaction on my credit card and miraculously the credit card company took my side and refunded my money. I ended up buying the same item locally, which cost me about $80 more. When I wrote my letter to the credit card company, I included the receipt from the local dealer, which said they basically don't accept returns, so I think that really helped my case.

Well - one time my package wasn't lost, but I got the wrong address. Ever dealt with those numbered street names in King County, Washington? Something like "15034 187th Ave. SE". My wife wanted to send a package to her brother, and FedEx Ground was something like $12 - cheaper than anyone else. However, they only had a hand written carbonless form at the FedEx Office (i.e. Kinko's) location.

I was tracking it and I wasn't sure what to do when it said not deliverable. With the hand written form it didn't have the specific address and I had to call in to correct the address. Nobody contacted me to fix it. But eventually it got there a bit late, but they also had to track where it was warehoused.

I've been lucky. I only want to know the delivery date and not where it is. My UPS, FedEx, and USPS packages have always arrived on time.

Another message that's not good to see is "package delivered on such and such date, signed for by someone you never heard of"...which usually means someone else got my package...luckily, this doesn't happen very often...
