The Honda Oil Filter Thread

So, I'm assuming, the RTA, which is the replacement for the A01, is not available in USA ???? Only the A02 is available in USA ??? ( which I would never buy again...Fram ) Please reply if I'm correct., anybody.

No, the 15400-RTA-003 is what you will get here from most Honda dealers, and all the online ones I've purchased from. I never see A02 anymore but they may be out there.

Not sure now, but a year ago I got it from Acura Curry dealer online

Glad to hear the A02 is finished. I still have a few A02's in my stash, and will use them up regardless. I am happy to hear Honda moved on to a better filter. Still have my stash of Mahle & Renken filters to use up first, then will consider buying RTA's OR filters from the PG list Glenda had kindly provided me. Saw a video on YT on Renken oil filters cut open. Built very well.

The RTA only replaced the A01 in Japan. In the USA, the Fram-made A02 was the A01 replacement. The A02 is still the current USA-honda OEM-filter. With first brands going bust, who knows if the Honda OEM filter will be re-sourced to another supplier.

The RTA is a still a current Honda OEM filter made in Japan, available in the USA by those who import it outside official Honda distribution.

They aren't hard to find if you shop online.

While I like the RTA-003, I see no reason to prefer it over a Pentius UFXL or any PGI-made premium filter. The former has no publicly available efficiency specifications, and I see no reason to pay more for an OEM filter of unknown performance when I can pay less for a filter of known excellent ability.

Dealers that don’t self-import sell the RTA as normal stock. I’m not sure where you get that from.

Thank you for clarifying. Once I use up my stash of other filters, I did print out Glenda's PGI filter list. Her list is easily available, ( and cheaper), than the RTA's. Will consider all of this when the time comes. I have quite a stash of filters to burn through first. Being retired doesn't help. Car not used that much. Upon completion of Physical Therapy from back surgery, which will be around 11-25, I have a line on a part time job, so the car will be used more. Hence, more OCI's.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I just ordered three oem Honda filters. First time I perhaps 750,000 Honda miles I will experience that feeling, except when I picked up my new Si many years ago.

I'm surprised to read here that the 003 is what's being sold by dealers now. Last I checked locally, Fram made A02 all that was sold by dealers and for a long time. That said, can't recall the last time I used a Honda OEM. I'll have to check next time by a dealer.

The 003 is available for $6.63 at hondapartsnow.com but their vehicle fit list does not include the Odyssey older than 2018. It fits lots of other older cars though, so maybe it just doesn't come up when you search???

I bought a box of 30 15400-plm-a02 from Bernardi Honda online and they all look like they’ve had a piece of the wrapper cut off and tape put on. Anyone seen this? Is it to get techs to stop poking the wrapper into the filter hole? Not sure if I should return them and seek out the newer 003 anyway
