Is anyone else starting to get beyond [censored] that this thing hasn't been fixed about 3 weeks ago? BP won't let independent experts or hardly even the federal government to analyze the situation, and many experts are saying don't believe a word BP is saying about the volume of oil pumping out or the extent of damage. All these dispersants they're using is keeping most of the oil under the surface. Heck, until yesterday, they apparently were still planning to try and save the well for [censored] sake!

If "someone" (hint hint) does not pull their head out within the next week and demand that BP, with the aid of the Coast Guard, Navy, and Army course of engineers, collapse the well with conventional explosives or something, (Russia has done this twice with nuclear weapons and many times with conventional weapons - it's how you permanently seal a well quickly) I'm afraid the gulf coast region will be devastated for a half century.

I can't believe BP has been allowed to let this go for over a month now! Actually I can, given the politics involved, but lets try and stay out of that.

They should be sued into the ground for this. I'm usually not the type to engage in boycotts and such, but I'm so mad about this that I will NEVER in my life ever again buy Castrol oil or BP gas.
 
given the American general public's insatiable appetite for fossil fuel/oil, they all major oil companies, incl. BeePea figured that they got us on the hook and can do anything they want to us and still get away scott-free.

To minimise the impact on me and my family, I have long moved on to using high fuel efficiency vehicles and also drive less.So, oil company's impact on me shall be minimised in the most profound way.

Will I be able to ween myself off of using fossil fuel completely? Not for the moment (at least need natural gas for my Trane XV95 for home heating).

The increasing volume of evidence shows that BP and Transocean has been extremely negligent/borderline incompetent with many aspects of the Deep Water Horizon. Failed blow out prevention tests and stringing us along with this charade of "top hats" and vacuum thingy's to suck the oil from the well.

Explosives have been historically used often to collapse run away oil wells. Russia has used nukes twice!
 
I always hated Castrol anyway, so now I have a really good reason not to use it.

Yes, I'm very disgusted by this whole situation.
 
Russia has, but not 1 mile under.There was a comment about this on Russia Today and even they say the situation is so different that the explosion method may not work or may cause additional damage not intended.

Are the talking heads all griping how poorly the government has dealt with this catastrophe yet? I dont watch TV much so I havent paid attention to them.

It really is disgusting. I can see that it is difficult to do anything a mile under water, but it is a LOT of oil. Wasnt a hazard assessent done years ago? Mitigation plans? Cant imagine something like this wasnt foreseen as a possibility.

Not saying it is easy, and they may well have a team working 24/7, but all we see is the oil coming up.

At the same time I have to wonder if the powers that be want this so that there is ammo against local drilling for the foreseeable future.
 
This is what de-regulation gets you. Welcome to the myth of the "free" market.

In the MSM, are you kidding?

The response by BP has only been met, perhaps surpassed in stupidity by the Federal government. This will likely be by far the worst ecological disaster in US history, and the Feds, all the way up to the top, have been largely silent, save for a press conference and some statements.

If someone (again - hint hint) does not demand serious action to fix this (it's blatantly obvious, no one is in control of this situation), the east coast of the US will become largely threatened as currents take the oil into the Atlantic. They've found oil in Key West already.

Why the shot at Palin over this? How does campaign contributions have anything to do with this crisis continuing?

A better black helicopter case could be made that certain politicians and groups are happy that this is continuing so they can use this crisis to stop all oil drilling

You got me but, they've got a lot invested in that hole....they want to salvage it I'd guess.
 
It is tough to hear these comments from longtime friends and people I have had many conversations with but I can appreciate them.
Here are the facts on how BP is responding, there is no reason to lie howeverthis has become a political and media spectacle when there is one focus that needs to be maintained. Stop the flow and then take accountability.

They are incurring mounting massive damage costs every second oil spills from their well. They are losing money on oil every second the well is not capped or the oil recovered. The PR nightmare while not impossible to overcome (how many still boycott Mobil over the Exxon Valdez) is tremendous. Also this tragedy can possibly lead to stopping or curtailing further off shore drilling. I just do not see how this benefits BP or the oil industry,
