What's better?
I've never desired to own any GM cars at all. But I love my S-series. They are easy to work on, cheap to fix, simple, timing chain engine, comfortable, fun to drive, good on gas.. What are the downsides?
+1 A new economy car does very little better than an old one in my experience. In fact many new econo boxes have worse power to weight ratios than the peppier old ones. The new ones are a bit safer except they are making them taller so rolling is more likely as my buddy with his Vibe found out... I'm sure Craig has as much trouble as me find our cars in a parking lot, everything new has much higher roof lines and my Neon hides behind everything newer except sports cars...

And coming from an ex-neon owner I also miss the days of the neon. I really don't know why they off'd it. In its last years it was a good platform and reliable.
I do love the low centre of gravity of the Saturn, and i prefer it to the goofy looking new "tall" cars that are out now.
I'm just sad the newest S-series I could possibly buy would be a 2002, and years down the road it wont be practical to have one at all, as they'll all be too old
I plan on keeping my 96 as long as possible. I love it!

I've never been in a dohc saturn but I'm sure they have similar zip and sporty feel as the old Neons. I just wish my Neon was a manual as I plan on doing some more lapping days next summer.
I'm seriously tempted to get another 5spd one as now I know abit about them and I'd still rather trash a $1200 car than a $10k car (that isn't more fun to drive)if something goes bad out there...

I like this car BUT I would only condsider it if it came in hatchabck form. The Opel Astra (it's close cousin) 5dr HB is darn near sexy!
Come on GM Ford is giving us the Focus MKIII with a hatch you need to match them.
The Focus is going to be a heck of a small car...it will set a bench mark!
