The continuation of being dumped on in Restaurants needs to end.

Our local Texas Roadhouse hasn't changed except to expand to a larger building to seat all of the customers that line up to eat. The food and service is still consistently good. The prices haven't changed and the portions are still generous. The only thing that has changed over the years is they no longer have a bucket of peanuts on the table. And the place is always packed. You have to get there early unless you want to wait in line.
Oh yeah! I'd forgotten about the peanuts. None here either. Always packed, standing room only!

We only rarely dine out anymore and I usually prepare dinner every evening. I do need a break from that now and then. Until 5 to 10 years ago, the best places to dine here were all country and village "hotels". Most had decent to very good cooks and prices were moderate. All were spotless and had good waitstaffs. One by one nearly every one of them closed before the pandemic. In a couple of cases it was due to a younger gen not wanting the life. In another, the next gen didn't get it that people expected clean dinnerware, etc. The one closest to me had once been a very popular dining spot for about 100 years. The owners were interviewed in what was left of our local paper. One reason given was no available suitable labor force. The other was that people would drive 30 minutes in traffic to wait 90 minutes for a table at a horrible chain joint. They could have dined locally, been seated almost right away and had higher quality meals for the same cost.

I'll add another lifetime thumbs down on IHOP. The last time I was at one, it was totally filthy everywhere. Food and service stank as well.

I wouldn't even consider eating at a Cracker Barrel, save for breakfast only, in a pinch. It also seems to be a thing there to not give you any silverware. They were OK about 20-25 years ago.

IHOP has really taken a nosedive into the bucket of :poop:. Last time I went there, cold food, took forever to get there, one couple left because they didn't get served, and on top of everything, my order was wrong. IHOP used to be the go-to place. Now, not so much. I see from earlier postings, I'm not alone location-wise.
Recently, that was our experience there as well. Won't be going back.

It has been going downhill at many of these chain restaurants. Any chain that relies on bottom of the barrel workers making minimum wage is in trouble right now. IMO without getting political the affordable care act was the first nail in the coffin. Many of these chain stores you could work there 40+ hours a week previous to that. I had a friend who was a bit down on his luck, but was working 40 hours a week at a Dunkin. Not great money, but it was enough to get by for him. Once that act came in to play, to avoid paying healthcare many of these chains just started hiring workers for 20 hours a week or less. Those people needed to work 2-3 different jobs for the same amount of pay, which just creates a revolving door of workers. Add in the pandemic, and it is the second nail in the coffin. There is a Dunkin down the street from my office. "Now Hiring" signs all over the building. If you ask how many hours a week, they will tell you 12-15 hours.

The fast-casual places are still a pretty good deal and the food is great. A bit upscale from fast food, and counter service so no tip required makes it more affordable. And you can't really mess up assembly line production. California Tortilla with it's chicken soft tacos, Qboda with it's chicken quesadilla, Cava with with it's pita wrap, are all in the $8-$9 range, filling, and relatively healthy.

OP- eating at ihop and wendys may not be good dining. Consider the yelp app on your phone, and find some new places.

Out here the ihop and dennys are nasty, we choose a local greasy spoon called Jim's they treat you right for similar pricing.
