The continuation of being dumped on in Restaurants needs to end.

Thus is the insidious nature of inflation. You’re not hit over the head one day by being asked for $11.99 for a cheeseburger that used to cost $6.99. You’re gradually getting used to it (like the frog in a pan of hot water who doesn’t know he’s cooked until he’s cooked.) The trick is to work more later in life, work smarter and to never assume that you have enough.
It may be the way of the world. But not in my world. I am beginning to see more restaurants with empty seats. People are slowly learning. In the past week I have purchased eggs for 99¢, bacon for $3.99 lb, choice strip steaks for $5.99 lb, lg box of Apple Jacks for a $1, good quality Black Forest deli ham for $5.49 lb, Thomas' English Muffins for $1.49 for pkg 6, Eckrich Beef Polska Kielbasa under $4 lb, boneless chicken tenderloins for $3.99 lb, produce is again available for fair prices. Milk price was down 50¢ qt yesterday, Minute Maid OJ has come down about 60¢ for the half gallon. Bought my 100% cherry juice for the best price ever recently. Went to a hole-in-the-wall family Italian place today, $9.99 for the full meal with drink, the Italian sausage was at least 10in long, with another meal tomorrow in the fridge.

Took the Lady friend to Quick Lane today for a key fob battery replacement. After looking at their new prices for services, I can understand why the place was deserted. $90 ($30 increase) for the Works package with semi syn. Not a single customer in sight. 5 or 6 techs standing around doing nothing. Service writers watching videos on YouTube. This place was usually booked ahead 2 weeks.

Inflation is rampid, and its everywhere, All I have to do is look at the stores app for a couple minutes and many dollars of saving can be had as many specials are not signed these days. (no help) Many folks roll over and pay it, making it harder for all the rest who can't. FYI I am not poor or uber wealthy and could pay these prices, but not for the garbage being slung at half of the restaurants these days.

What grocery store is that? Those are really good prices!

All stores really. Its real competitive around here. Hy Vee and Price Chopper who battle constantly still have good deals and super one day deals. Last night I was crusin' in the Maverick (windows down and A/C on) and at a stop sign I opened the HyVee App, canned green beans for 33¢, garden salad for 88¢ a bag and two other hot items that I didn't buy. Used the A/C in the store and walked for 25 minutes and got a * from FitBit. It was about 90f yesterday. The savings are easy and I enjoy them, and use it for the overpriced meals out.

Sushi Wednesday at the supermarket. $5 salmon-avocado along with 50 cents worth of tossed salad.

I went to my local mom and pop Chinese restaurant today. The food was still excellent but the portion size was about 3/4 of what it normally was in the past but they kept the price the same. I call that shrinkflation.
Noticed that the last time at Hunan Garden. Still very good but less General's in my chicken.

Yep, if the idea is just to get some half decent food down the hatch when we are away from home, a grocery store with a take out section does the trick! Roast chicken dinner with fries and a salad is a cheap way to feed 4 fast compared to the same stuff at a restaurant.
We still eat out sometimes but its got to be something we can't easily make better at home, so usually no chains.... Sushi, ethnic food places are interesting, and when travelling, its usually a good experience to go to an ethnic food truck or takeout place that the local blue collar guys are at for lunch.
We've got no interest in going to something like Appleby's.... Not that its bad food, its just expensive for what you get, and often takes too long.

Just checked the local menu, https://order.fiveguys.com/location/bethesda-auto-park-ave/menu/burgers That's crazy. Cheeseburger $11.19, regular fries 5.89, regular drink $2.99. For a family of four, that's over $85 with tax for a burgers and fries dinner. Insane. A meal at a nice steak restaurant isn't that much. Not sure how they stay in business with those prices. The burgers are a little better than fast food, but not three time as better for three times the price.
In a sit down restaurant most cheeseburgers are at least $14.00. In other fast casual hamburger places the burgers are $8.00 for no where near the quality. So they are really not that far off.

"...you expand a bit?..."
back to #196-8.
just a response while it was still "live".
An exclamation @ cost ofa simple berg.

All miss the point of the other similar current thread:
fast food, fast casual, much of the commodity pumped thru grocery stores
is not so great for families, the traveling salesman (OP's point I believe) &
others. Some skip the corporate. Many are buying local, eating local...

Actually courtesy of John Lee Hooker, Thorogood just covered it.
Thorogood nails it in this 10 minute video. Raw talent. I don't know of a single entertainer today with his talent. No fancy flashing lights, no fancy dancers to distract. No fancy outfits. No autotone. George has got the goods.
