Being a Chicago baseball fan, both Sox & Cubs, I wrote this to my wife (also a Cubs fan) today as I tuned into the internet radio-cast with the game already in progress:

"Reds vs Cubs at Wrigley…

Right now, it’s the top of the 4th inning. Reds have their 12th man of the inning at the plate. There’s been 5 walks in the inning. So far, the score is 7-1.

Update, as I wrote the above sentence: the Cubs walked their 6th man of the inning and forced in another run: Score 8-1.

I don’t understand why the 13th man to the plate is even swinging at pitches with the pitching being sooo bad…1-2 is the count. He just struck out. Idiot…he could have walked too!!!

Makes me want to slit my wrists!"


I would REALLY like to watch/listen to the White Sox but I can't stand Hawk Harrellson as an announcer (or lack thereof).

I sure hope the Sox go all the way this year, they deserve it. Being at a Cubs game is fun and all (especially sitting in the "meat market" section...the bleacher seats) but it's just pathetic that year after year it's the same sorry a** story.

I can't be the only one who's wanted to shoot their TV at how bad the Cubs are, yet again.

Ive been a Cub fan for years. I used to write on chicagosports.com/cubs message boards. Years ago after the 2001 season I wrote a big long post on how their offseason would hurt them for years and how Kerry Wood should be traded for then unknown prospect named Hank Blalock. The Rangers had just drafted Teixiera and had some quality first basemen and I thought they would go for Kerry Wood for Blalock since Wood was from the Dallas area. Well I got laughed off the Cubs board and am still hated there. Go mention me and see.

The Great Greek God of all Cub hope "Kerry Wood" hasnt been the savior that Cubs fans wanted and he and Ramirez eat up a chunk of salary. Blalock is relatively affordable.

The Cubs mantra has been that pitching and defense win and they havent drafted hitting or signed hitting and they are far from an 800 run offense which is what you need to win.

The pitchers really have tough workloads to pitch heavy when their teams arent scoring runs and some of these guys have gotten hurt.

I love the Cubs and Im disgusted with the Cubs.

These days I post at MLB.com on the Devil Ray board and its a new young team with out a lot of payroll and some difficult challenges ahead and yet I think they might win.

Everyone should have a NL team and an AL team if they are a baseball fan and the Rays are loads of fun. They have about as good of a minor league system as any team in baseball and next year they may win their division with $200 million less in payroll than the Yankees or Boston.

How great is that?

Don't equate Boston's payroll with that of the Yankees. While Boston's payroll is about at the level where the luxury tax begins to apply, the Yankee payroll is some $70 million per year more.

My favorite Yankee player is Kevin Brown. For $15 million a year, he pitches a few ineffective innings, hurts his back, goes on the DL for a few weeks, comes back, pitches a few ineffective innings, hurts his back, goes on the DL, etc. etc. etc.

And then last year he got frustrated and broke his hand punching a club house wall.

We're bummed. Cubs have lost heart. Maybe they can stilll whip the Cards head to head for the season.
Having lived in Atlanta for several years I also became aBraves fan which is still my wife's #1 team. Thank goodness we have one team in the house to root for.

Story from a couple days back, which I think says it all comparing the obcious winner and loser of the two franchises.

While listening to the Cubs announcers while driving about they expressed their disgust that NOONE on the field was from the Cubs farm system.
Later that evening the Braves announcers were expressing their delight that EVERYONE on the filed that eve. was from the farm system.
One has won 13 straight divisions. One...Well you know.

The Cubs have proven that they can do the least with their resources of any team.
BTW, I loved the Sox announcers Harrelson and Paciorek, as a pair.

I suspect a lot of long suffering, and presently alive, Cubs fans have specified in their wills that their ashes are to be scattered at Wrigley the next time the Cubs are in the Series.

Every time the Cubs choke, I just laugh! Especially last season when my Cincinnati Reds helped them by kicking their butts at the end of the season!

The news in Fort Wayne is always about the Flubs (I mean Cubs). They ignore the other area teams even when they are having great seasons (like the White Sox this season!) They put the Cubs on the front page while the other teams are on 7B under the underwear add from Meijer!

It seems like the past few years all I've heard is this is the year for the Cubbies! Mark Prior this and Kerry Wood that, Sammy's the best, and Sammys a &*$%!

I know the Reds haven't had the best season, but as long as they beat the Cubs (or finish with a better record with a lower payroll), I am happy!

I'm convinced it wasn't Steve Bartman. Dusty left a struggling Pryor in far too long. He should have used a few fresh arms to get thru the 8th & 9th. He didn't, the rest is history.

Dusty just can't motivate his group. He's a good manager, but not a great manager. Perhaps he should knock on the door of his south side counterpart on how to take a bottom-end team and make them work together to achieve great things. I'm impressed on what's gone on at Comiskey this year.
