Today I picked up five quarts of Mobil-1 20W-50 motorcyle oil for $0.33 per quart at an AutoZone clearance sale. I don't have a motorcyle, but one of my friends does and I thought he would appreciate such a gift.

I brought it to him to ask if he would like to have it and he was quite concerned that if he put this normally expensive Synthetic oil in his Honda motorcycle he would never be able to go back to the regular stuff. This is a smart, generally well informed guy. I told him that while there may once have been issues like that, it was no concern with modern oils. He said that I'm one of the few people he would believe such a thing from and accepted my oil gift with a smile and thanks.

So it goes!

Toyota still has this in their FAQ on toyota.com:

"once synthetic oil is used, you should keep using it and not switch back and forth with natural petroleum-based oil."

AutoZone was one of the very, very few places left where you could go and buy that Mobil 1 V-Twin 9 buck a quart stuff. Wally's quit selling it long ago...

If AZ is closing it out, it's because it's not selling.

And if it's not selling, it's because Joe Average isn't as stupid as Mobil presumed he was.

Good price on that V-Twin oil--no doubt about that.

But I also say good riddens to an oil priced a bit over twice what it should have cost.

I remember when WalMart closed it out...I bought quite alot of it and still have some of it, seems like it was around $2 a quart.
