Actually, in the case of Advance, I just buy everything on the website for the discounts and pick it up in-store. I circumvent human interaction completely.
+1 Other than paying, and passing the time of time day with the counter guy during check out, I don't care about advice/interaction. In fact, the AAP online codes make them my favorite auto parts store. That and the fact they carry Purolator/P1 oil filter products. I've saved a ton of money on purchases at AAP with online codes. Happen to know a couple of the counter guys now because I'm a regular with online sales for pick up, a ~40%/$40 off online battery purchase recently.
But, some of the stories about some of the individual stores and counter/sales people are sometimes amazing.
