I read with interest the controversy over the recent Amoil comparison tests. Many people discounted the four-ball test for motors oils, for example. What I'd like to do here is start a thread on what ARE the important tests for us to look for, and at, when they become available?

UOA's in my opionion would be the best test of them all. Some oils work great in some engines but dont shine in others.

A uoa might not be the best test of an oil. There are too many other factors. A good oil in an engine with a problem would look good on a uoa. A good oil cleaning up an engine can also look bad. The real world value of an oil is sometimes hard to figure out. A bypass filter can also make reading a uoa different. The engine could be producing a lot of wear particles that would normally show up in a particle count but get caught by the filter. The uoa might look good but the engine might not be so good.
