Actually I can name three.

1) A safety adapter for cell phones where the radio would normally be.

2) A cap on radio volume to a slightly higher than average setting, instead of ear bleeding loud volumes.

3) The car can't be started without all passengers wearing a seat belt.

I have seen way too many fatalities in my life, and the level of careless and distracted driving is killing way too many people.

Any other ideas?

#0 - Don't grant licenses to people who have no business operating motor vehicles, for any number of reasons.

It's way too easy to obtain a driver's license in the U.S., and a majority of holders don't respect the task, don't know the rules, don't pay attention, or worse, do actually understand those principles in theory, yet ignore them in practice anyway.

I'm reminded of this every time I venture out on the road.

And was doubly reminded of this last time I was called for jury duty, for a trial where the defendant, with a prior DUI conviction, managed to kill a person, and maim another, while doing it again, under a suspended and/or revoked license.

The trial was projected to consume multiple weeks, so multiple pools of potential jurors were called for evaluation. Judging by the size of the courtroom, probably 300-400 people.

Hundreds of people, the dozen empaneled, and the judge could have had their time spent in much more productive ways because it should have never gotten that far, from the start.

At least the DA got it right this time, and was pursuing a murder charge.

Safety regulators have the classic "treat the symptoms, not the disease" approach in trying to save the stupid from themselves, yet failing to prevent them from hurting others.

From my school bus seat I've seen; man holding cup in left hand while using lap top with right / hundreds of cell phone's being used / holding drink while eating sandwich in right hand / putting on makeup / reaching into back seat, head completely turned to the rear / yelling-talking to kids with head turned to the right. They always cross center line when on left hand turn. Pass when there is a double yellow line because I'm driving 55 MPH. Pitiful.

1) What is a safety adapter? You mean a phone holder? Radio meaning the antenna of the phone? or the radio in the car?

2) Manufacturers have done research and found what customers want. You would be surprised how many people want louder speakers for video conference or watching videos.

3) Overly complicated. We already have sensors telling people to buckle up or else the car would beep till it annoys you.

When I worked at Kraft Foods in maintenance anytime we were more than 4 foot off the ground we had to have a lanyard on for fall protection. This included stepladders. So if you fell, you also brought the ladder along to fall on top of you.

I'm a firm believer in Natural Selection. ;)

So are you saying my idea that all vehicle tires have an RFID chip that sends data to the ECU on tread depth and tire age and won’t let the vehicle be driven on bald or 9 plus year old tires is a bad idea?

I'll add one that even from my cantankerous position of being anti-nanny state makes sense to me:

When wipers are on intermittent, high, or low, headlights automatically come on.

A WHAT? Never realized my cell phone was a radio too. Maybe a safety adapter for the car radio that mutes the sound whenever you're driving. Listening to the radio while driving is distracting and dangerous.

And shouldn't this thread be in the Humor section?
