In brief.
Here I posted about the title car which I had been tending over 7 years. Neighbor sold it to a friend a bit over a year ago.
The short of it is that the new owner operated the car essentially without oil.
Yesterday, we met and scanned with my cheapest code reader. The new owner (18 year old kid) looked up the diagnoses.
P2646-Prob with the A rocker arm actuator circuit for Bank 1
P2651-Rocker arm oil pressure switch B circuit Low Voltage
C1500- "involves camshaft timing"
C1555- kid said this is likely from my code reader itself (?)
Besides the usual caveats regarding having a fully charged battery before pulling codes (the terminals have crud on them now), am I safe in assuming that metal bits were pumped throughout this engine and possibly loused up the cam adjuster?
The lad immediately wanted to know whether the engine can be fixed or if it needs replacement.
He speaks of replacing a car engine as we would a pair of shoelaces.
I told him I wasn't sure.
When I first posted about these foolish new owners, several BITOGers scolded me for caring.
I get that, but the car was my baby for >7 years (sniff-sniff).
The good news is that the lad and his parenting agents (sad story) freely admit to destroying the engine themselves.
NOW, I walk away.....but any insight on such a repair would be appreciated.
