TFLEV leases a Fiat EV for $47/month!?

Soooo, the little guy like me can't take a rebate on an electric car that is not built here, but the big guys can under the pretext of being 'commercial.' So fair. I hope all these gimmics will go away soon.

Good points
But I believe the leasing company or finance company owns the car.
I’m certainly not a specialist but a finance company can be the manufacturers finance company or an independent finance/leasing company who actually claims ownership and collects the $7,500 as a commercial vehicle and USA parts content doesn’t matter.

Interesting point you brought up and why the lease deal in Colorado as it is the local finance company offering the low priced deal not the manufacturer or dealership.

I’m no expert for sure but like to learn!
One thing for sure the owner of the Fiat in Colorado is the leasing company getting the rebate as only the owner can.

I don’t think but can be wrong that Fiat is not in this case the finance/leasing company. I saw something to that effect but didn’t pay much attention, at the time I was just pointing out that leased cars are a commercial vehicle and whoever is supplying the lease (leasing company as owner) gets the $7,500 not the person leasing.

Who is the Legal Owner of a Leased Car?

Because car leasing is essentially like a long-term rent, you don't own the car. The leasing company does.

I believe the Colorado lease ad states the deal is provided by the leasing company and disclosed the name of the company

What I have learned is I should not have said the dealer gets the rebate you are correct but ownership of the car belongs to whoever is the leasing company and that doesn’t have to be the manufacturers leasing company.
Interesting twist for sure ! I like this stuff, not debating you, good post.

(And now I have to get back to sleep, Happy Thanksgiving!)

The lender on the lease is the manufacture, for three diff brands I have leased. I know for a while GM wasn’t doing their own leases, years ago, but the leases were so horrible I’m sure very very few consumers went this route. They used a realistic residual value.

The manufacture always will have the best leases, they hedge and inflate residuals. I’ve leased a BMW that had a 73% 2 year residual once. Manuf know they get the car back on maturity, they can offer the consumer loyalty bonuses to keep them with the brand. The now used car, will be “certified” and they offer it for sale with extended warranty and low apr.

Good info, I just checked the information on the lease I posted in Colorado and it is Stellantis

In my mind I still wonder if there are independent leasing companies. I would think there must be. With that said my mind goes back many decades to when my wealthy friend father (he was president) held a large stake in a (at the time) well known leasing company in NY. But that was a long time ago.

That’s not exactly what’s happening, it’s just passing along as a lease. It won’t apply as a purchase though.

Well, let's be honest. You cant rent a car and get a tax rebate. That is exactly what a lease is. The company that "rents"/leases it to you can as a commercial vehicle. I would suppose if you set up your own company or S Corporation you could also have your own leasing company.
Im not trying to sound like a smart a___.
But a company in the business of renting EVs gets a tax credit even if the vehicle is produced overseas. I am sure big banks had their special interests taken care of in the banking lobby yet that is the way things work and at the same time it is reducing the pollution on our roadways. It still comes down to you cant get a tax rebate by renting a car, YET the company renting it to you can give you the benefits of that tax rebate and clearly shown in the OP that a person can pay $47 a month for a Fiat e500

For a person that hates all this taxpayer money given away I am actually ok with this. It levels the playing field for renters being able to get better prices as well as buyers who do.
