Tesla tire tax... Ouch!

We already have to pay the "Toyota tax". I just found out about the "Tesla tire tax".
We picked up a screw near the sidewall of our 2018 Model 3 Mid Range. 10K miles on the clock.
I had to air up the tire to fit the jack underneath. @The Critic got me some Tesla style hockey pucks to jack the car. Man it is heavy!

Anyways, Continental ProContact RX 235/40/R19... List $364.
Wheel Works (Firestone) is pretty good to me; they gave me a little over 10% off.
$370 out the door, including the governor's tax.
Ouch!

Supply and demand. Those are the OEM tires for your Tesla and no other cars seem to use them, so they're just not common. You can get Continental Pure Contacts for a LOT less as well as tires from other brands. I realize you were just replacing (1) tire so in that case, yeah, you're screwed.

Glad you're fixed up and no harm was done, other than to your wallet a bit.

In true BITOG fashion, one of my considerations before I even buy a vehicle is the cost of replacement tires for it. I like as much sidewall as possible as well. I don't have the best of luck in terms of tire loss due to punctures, etc.

Does the Telsa tire have a higher load rating? What is recommended air pressure?

There are lot of tires available in that size that are 2/3rds the price, and some even have the lower rolling resistance that the OEM tire does.

Hard to call it tax when you choose to spend more...

I THINK the tires may be vehicle specific because the car is so heavy. 42 psi.

I have one; TSX with the mighty K24. Great cars. I used to drive used Hondas and Toyota strippie pickups. Now I can buy whatever I want.

Pretty average nowadays for larger performance tires. Coworker just spent ~$900 to do 2 rear runflat tires on a 21 X3M with under 10K miles. 1 was damaged from a puncture.
