I didn't see one on the road until early this year, but Tesla must have kicked into high gear or something, now they are everywhere! I parked next to two today doing my rounds, one at Lowes another at the deli I eat it.

Nice looking cars though, and very quite.

Of course they're quiet, they're electric. And yes, they've really really rampe dup production to meet demand. The 2+ year preorders are a thing of the past.

Their success is very, very well earned. Barring the need to take constant long road trips while carrying basketball players in the back seat at all times, there isn't a real reason to buy anything else in that class.

There is, actually...price.

at the price they get for those things, no thanks plus the battery crash protection deal would is a major problem. The Volt had one catch fire after the goverernment crashed it and did not discharge the battery as instructed and a big [censored] pr deal splashed across everthing. So what will be the outcome of battery fires they have had due to lack of puncture protection like every body else has?. They also have never made money only sold tax payer funded tax credits which are like funny air money. If the Volt had these fires due to design faults the media would be all over them but the media touts this company as green even though the electric cars where I live run on coal so there you have it.

Extremely pretty cars. A few around here.

Its nice someone makes a "green" car that does not have to look dorky and stupid like the Volt, Prius, Insight, Leaf etc which I personally would not be caught dead owning.

Sorry to the owners on here, but the Prius is WAAAYYYY beyond being just "dorky and stupid" looking, it actually rivals, if not surpasses the Aztek, and other monstrosities in that area.

Its pricing isn't too far out of line with that of other cars in the segment. Federal and state incentives bring it pretty close. Then you save hundreds of dollars per month on running costs -- electricity instead of fuel, and zero regular maintenance. It'll pay for itself in a few years easily, and it's still a better car.

A couple of months ago, a Model S hit a huge metal object that punched straight through the battery. The fire never spread too far aft of the A-pillar and never entered the cabin, even after the firefighters made it worse. The driver was completely unharmed and bought another Model S right away because he was so impressed.

Ever seen a car catch on fire from its gas tank, or from a fuel line rupture in the engine bay? The whole dang thing goes up in smoke, and fast. I'd take a Tesla battery fire over that any day.

If I could afford a Tesla you think I would give a [censored] about gas prices?

Teslas are for tree hugging yuppies and political correct actors ha ha.

Props to the technology though.

It hit a metal object, punctured a battery and caught fire... and this is acceptable to you?

If your in your car, and hit a metal object, and it punctures the gas tank, your risk of fire goes up greatly. Is that risk acceptable to you? I'm guessing you still drive every day.

Fire is bad period. But i've never heard of a gasoline powered vehicle going up in flames after running over a piece of metal in the road.

If you were to puncture the gas tank, it wouldn't necessarily be an automatic fire, but depending on the conditions, a fire could result.

Model S is a great looking setup and the tax credits and fuel savings offset some of the huge price. I wouldn't buy one unless i made a very large steady income but i would surely delight in every mile i did not have to buy fuel for. I would extend this joy by solar paneling my home so the power company didn't get a cut either. Even if i was Zuckerberg rich i would still enjoy not buying gas.

Its a rich mans car and its own unique version of automotive fun.

Nah a big German sedan is $80k-$100k plus so not really. The 2014 S really starts at around $100k as delivered, A8's are about the same, etc.

A Tesla in a dark color like black with tints is an EXTREMELY good looking sedan. I saw one today while getting coffee, looked as good as anything Aston Martin puts out.

My uncle is looking to buy one, he has a 7k solar system on his house with room to add 3k more....so he can run the thing for almost nothing!

I'm going to assume you just innocently missed the fact that the "piece of metal" in this case was big enough to wreck the front end and punch straight through the car's armor plating on the bottom.

You wouldn't just be conveniently ignoring that fact, would you? Of course not.
