Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective

I'm not defend the poor customer service these people got, but it seems a letter to a lawyer, ministry of transport and the SAE, cc'd to Tesla customer service would've probably result in the repair being magically covered all of a sudden...
Customers who don't stand up for themselves get ripped off by dealers and manufacturers all the time. Tesla has a bit of an odd dynamic without a semi independent dealer to hold the manufacturer accountable, and to act as a knowledgeable source on the ground and who wants to keep this particular person a customer.
Most people buying a Tesla have some resources to put up a bit of fight, but it seems some didn't. Hopefully Tesla gets sued and learns their lesson.

I do find it a bit funny that some people assume Musk is like an all knowing and seeing god, and personally decided to put sub standard parts on cars, and then not warranty them... There was probably 10 guys between Musk and the team responsible for this part...
After watching him a bit on Joe Rogan's show, he reminds me of some engineering students in university, a bit nerdy, idealistic, and pretty sure he's got the best ideas in the room, and not always aware that he doesn't... In Musk's case he has had a few good ideas, and capitalized on them, but he's human, and as long as the right people in government and in his companies say "no" to him and can clearly articulate why they said "no", and suggest a better way, he should do the right thing most of the time IMO.

He's not a tobacco industry executive, or Ford executive responsible for crunching the numbers on Pinto gas tanks, I think he has some morals and lots of goals other than making money at any costs.

Do your homework before you drop the coin on a Tesla or that virtue signaling. Since inception, it has been well-known Tesla's aren't the most robust vehicles out there.

I should apologize for the virtue-signaling comment but hey, I just lowered myself to the standards of a few of the preceding posts.

You shouldn't.
People exhibit a distressing need to worship people. It's called a Messiah Complex. "The guy I like will fix everything".
Then they go back to smoking their cigarettes, drinking their booze and watching TV.
But that's OK. They know they have the answer.
People worship cars and lifestyles....entertainers and sports personalities....politicians and business leaders.
It's pathetic, really.

BISCUT: Please save me a Google and tell me what "virtue-signaling" is. I'm not being snotty or selectively naive here.

Would be interesting to see if someone randomly magnafluxes the aft lower control arm on a few new Model Ys and replacement parts to see if there is a trend here. Would be expensive but would also be a shocking conclusion if proven true.

Magnaflux process:

No problem buddy....I bought an environmental-saving vehicle to demonstrate my superior social conscience. Fairness to many in the forefront of buying and EV/Tesla as in the beginning there wasn't the info out there on the child/slave labor issues (I'll leave it there so this doesn't get muddy).

I also agree with you on the first part of your post. OMG it's everywhere and it's not healthy. I'm old school. Every single one of us puts our pants on the same way. We are all fallible and nobody should be worshiped. Social media has a lot of positives but issues like this one are destructive to society, IMO.

Years ago he would take reporters for test rides in then-new Tesla cars and they would often break down. He would blame this on some alleged "abusive driving test" conducted earlier.

Elon's attitude is that Teslas can't fail, they can only be failed.

Got it. Right on. Great illustration.

Me: I seriously considered buying a Nissan Leaf from a family not 2 miles away.
Crowing my environmental consciousness wouldn't've been my aim.
I figured a small, possibly less desirable, 100% EV would be perfectly suited to all the small trips we all do. A cheaper example in good repair had definite "shallow end of the pool" appeal.
And thanks to the positive mental health conditioning BITOG affords, I didn't fear being called a cheapskate....which I can resemble.

I figured if the battery died, it would be removable and the cells testable. The worst cylinders would be replaced (I'd seen photos of their construction) and heck, it's new, interesting tech and Dorman will have the packs eventually. Bases covered.

If anything, I would've been drunk with delusions of being able to cope with that cart when it failed.
I can brag about not wanting to brag to people who can't fathom the fact that oil gets old.

As far as the Tesla..aaaahh, excessiveness goes, didn't anybody smell a bandwagon with these things?
"0 to 120 in 2 seconds.......no interior room...cover the country with chargers as Henry did with Model T's...Martha, I've found the car of our dreams."

One More Time:
Electric milk carts in the UK.....My dad grew up seeing electric Macy delivery trucks all around NYC....My mom's hometown had old ladies driving around in electric cars in the '20's.
They give us Teslas and a loud, "trash news worthy" spokesman.

Think of how much better we could have used some of the resources we blew through in the past X years.

He is more dangerous to humanity then a help. I hope the cult leadership of the companies he is involved in somehow come to that realization and start ignoring his untreated bipolar wants.
He is not bi-polar, he has been diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger's syndrome to be exact). This explains a LOT about how he thinks and acts as well as what he says and does. Individuals with ASD have brains that are wired differently than the rest of us. It has been said that another "Messiah", Steve Jobs, also had ASD. Both of them can be described as intelligent visionarys but both are/were sadly lacking in social skills.

Howard Hughes of the 21st century.

But yeah, he's definitely reached the "eff that guy" stage.

Hopefully, for their sake, his spawn don't suffer from his traits.

And he is sure trying to make a lot of spawns.
He needs to keep it in his pants.

Solid post. As more time passes with EV's they look less and less of a viable option for many. One thing ICE and EV's have in common is the really high cost of purchase and ownership. I feel for young kids and young familes needing vehicles.
